Guys,

I am building an South Vietnamese Bulldog, and I was wondering what color to paint the ruck sacks, bed rolls etc?

TIA

So am I looking at an Olive Drab and Khaki, or a post war set of greens?

Both depending on the item and what stocks it came from. But more of post 1944 greens (not post war, it started appearing in time for D-Day) Remember some ARVN gear could date back to the French who inherited stuff from the wartime Free French.

Indeed. For ARVN stuff I always like seeing the odd piece of French equipment, be it bags, weapons, stowage, boxes, etc. It adds flavour and a sense of place.

If you could find the design of a distinctive French bag or pack, maybe in the French paratroop camo, that would be really cool to plop down on top of a pile of stowage.

Or have one of the crew wearing an old French para smock, something like that.

Gives the viewer something to say "Ooo! Lookit that! Cool!"

The ARVN guys used mostly current supplied equipment, but also used a lot of stuff from the mid to late 50's US inventory. Yet they also used a little bit of home made equipment that might be camo or even black or brown.

Another even more interesting thing about the ARVN is that they wore more tiger stripes than anybody, but most were rear echelon folks. Panthers would be seen is US jungle or even standard stateside BDU's, but also wore tiger stripes often. They were a tough unit.
