WOW......They have now made more plastic kits of the Tiger I/E than they were produced in the war ;-) . Question is WHY? I know German sells, but give us a break already.

What research have they done? Are these cribbed from someone else's Tigers? Many unanswered questions here.

OK...if you are not interested in Tigers why even read this thread? If I see Tamiya is releasing...say....a new Chieftan tank I'm not going to even look at the announcement. I definitely won't complain about them not releasing a Bergepanther.

Remind me sometime to comment "Where's the Bergepanther" when a forum announces a release of a Lancaster or Bedford 5t. 😂
I guess I don't get when a panther or tiger is announced people come and whine about how it's not a 1/32 strike eagle or 1/35 Guy Quad. Anyways actually a decent tiger is not that easy to find. Dragon's are often short runs and difficult to find. Italeri's is not worth mentioning, The Zvezda/Revell one has awful tracks, poor one piece feifels and very soft detail. It also features markings for tanks with different features, and like many kits, mixes early and mid features. Academy's is ..well..meh. and the older ones have symmetrical turrets. Tamiya's can be ok but suffer from lack of finesse in favour of smart engineering, and also offer some incorrect features. Rye Field is ok because they used DML's as a guide- but they, too, offer incorrect features. So..if Trumpeter can make an ACCURATE kit it should prove to be most welcome. Now, where is my bergepanther?!

I agree! 90% of this thread is people who obviously have no interest in panzers. I am flummoxed. So it's not a Tomcat, Oshkosh, Spitfire, mounted roman Cavalry....it may prove to be a very nice release! At any rate there has been a massive amount of modern and WW2 allied stuff of late, it's not like the 90s when no one was making Scammels, Morris, Cougars etc. We even have a Faun I ask you!

Sadly, the HaT 54mm set is still widely available. If I knew they would resemble toy soldiers from the dollar store I would never have bought them!!

Other than Dragon and Rye Field all the other Tiger I kits are over twenty years old. The Academy ones only have new turrets the base kit being from the early 1990s.

With new Phantoms and P-51 And Me 109 finally arriving to replace plastic from the 20th century, I would welcome an all new Tiger. Dragon may be definitive but they tend to be scarse. Now if Trumpeter could also have a good price point and offer greater value than Dragon or Rye Field they would have a winner.

Say if they aimed not to replace the Dragon kits but instead aim at those who would normally opt for the Tamiya? Face it, the mid price point Tiger you have are Zvezda, Academy and Italeri.

Aim at replacing them.

And how about a T-54 you don't need an engineering degree to build? A new line of T-34?

Scalemodel lists 98 full Tiger I kits in 1:35 scale, of which there are a few future releases, prototypes and what if's that I'd say won't count. Sure, that is quite a lot.

But guess what? How many full kits in 1:35 do you think there are of the M4 Sherman?

Nearly twice as many. And that of a vehicle infinately less interesting than the Tiger I.

For some reason I never hear anybody complain about "yet another Sherman" whenever one is released. (But that may be that I find Shermans duller than anything, and never read any Sherman-related news.)

Wonder why Trumpeter waited so long before jumping in the Tiger market. Anyway, with David Byrden aboard we should have a pretty accurate kit and it's always nice to have options to pick from.
I'll wait for the reviews of the released kit before making any decisions. I must have a half dozen Dragon Tigers, a couple of Ryefield kits and even a few old Tamiyas to build. So it's a low priority for me.
NOW, if they would make a 1/16th Tiger with a complete interior I'd be all over that ! Especially if DB oversaw the project.
Market economics will dictate if Trumpeter made a wise decision or not.
In total agreement about maybe Trumpy should have devoted their resources for something un-kitted OR in need of updating.

I was so hoping a Sherman basher wouldn't post but one just had to. On most German tanks especially the Tigers the differences amount to moving a shovel or a latch whereas on Sherman's it's whole different turrets and engine decks and suspensions. You're only showing ignorance of a subject by such outright derision.

And that's my half penny of opinion. Not even worth a full sense. (spelling intentional)

I relatively new to the whole allure of German armor but the sheer variety of the Sherman series never ceases to amaze me as opposed to the minute differences between production variants on German armor. Like a Thursday rather than Tuesday-- But I'm finding room in my stash for many of them.

But I still like it all.

This is the reason why I lately buy stuff mostly from Takom, look at what they brought out lately - AMX13, Chieftain, M47, M3 Lee/Grant, and before that the Renault FT-17. These are all mainstream subjects which were missing on the market for decades. Takom now reminds me of Dragon from around 1995 - 2000 when they had the most interesting subjects on the market. Trumpy should stick to what they do best - USSR armour.

I have a dozen different Tiger I's in the stash, spread about all production time frames, involving at least 3 different manufacturers. I've yet to build one due to these fine reviews/reports over the years that reveals multiple, and distinctive flaws, to each one, that would take aftermarket purchases to correct. Besides, I've been on my Middle East building kick the last few years, and don't feel the need to build a Tiger at the moment. I'm not discouraged about building a Tiger, but I am reluctant in purchasing anything new in the Tiger world...defaulting to the notion that there will be excessive faults with the kits. Going back to what I have in the stash...when the 'building a Tiger bug' hits, I'll deal with the version I chose, get the aftermarket to correct it, and be done with it. I don't think Trumpy will release anything more accurate to the point where I have go out and have a religious sacrifice in burning my stashed Tiger into a big ball of goo to the plastic gods just because Trumpy's release might have one corrected feature that mine does not. I'll probably pass on these releases knowing I have spent enough money in the Tiger black hole.

If so, then that changes everything for me. His improvements to the Dragon kits are immense.

Yes, I'm totally ignorant of the Sherman, and I'm pretty sure there's a lot of variety amongst them. Not surprisingly, as there was a helluva lot more built, and the type served for decades, rather than three years.

Derision? More tongue in cheek, but these things never come across easily online.

Enjoy your Shermans, Stephen, as I do my Tigers. Fingers crossed we'll have plenty of more kits coming!

Some new Cromwell would be awesome to replace the Tamiya one once and for all.
