with all the MRAPS use in Iraq and Afghanistan what happened to them were they left for the left behind and given to the iraqi and Afghan armies or were they shipped back to the units here and still in use here in the US and Germany or were they sent to the boneyard for storage with other equiptment

Lots of MRAPs were left behind and given to the Iraqi and Afghan armies. Some were sold for scrap. Most were older versions that the US had already upgraded beyond. It is much cheaper to leave them there than to pay to transport (rail, ship, truck, etc.) them back to the US and dispose of them here. Some have also been transferred to state and federal law enforcement agencies.

The Huskie Mk IIIs were brought home since they are low density, specialized vehicles. Also, they are much newer and still in use.

Nick, if you search Google using "MRAP after Afghanistan" you will find a document by Jane's that's a good read. It is called "Retasking MRAP: Life after Afghanistan."

one of the saddest moments of my Afghanistan tour.... watching damn near brand new tools get put in a 25 foot deep pit....Snap on tools, hundreds of pounds worth.... being buried in the dirt. Cant give them to the joes who might have use for them back home and tell em shipping is on them..... and I guaran damn tee that there are some seriously tallented Afghani wrench turners with dirt under their fingernails from digging those tools up about 5 seconds after we vacated the premesis

I drove by Letterkenny Army Base in PA a couple years back and they had hundreds and hundreds of MRAPs just sitting in a huge field.

I haven't seen any NATO camo MaxxPros yet. They do have NATO camo M-ATVs in Korea though.

The M-ATV looks good in NATO 3 color

So if I get this right

the Army will upgrade and retain the RG-31 Mk.5,M-ATV and the Maxxpro
and the Marines with upgrade and retain the M-ATV, cougar 6x6 or did I miss read the article?
