Hi everyone,

I've come up with very little on my own so I thought I'd ask the experts. I'm wanting to have some of the 4 gallon "flimsy" fuel cans 3D designed for me but I'm not finding much in the way of good reference photos and dimensions.

The 4 gallon cans like those produced by Resicast would be great to model as would well as the excellent 2 gallon cans by Panzer Art. I'd love to find photo examples of the original cans to make a pattern of if possible. So if anyone has any really good photos and or dimensional data on these or the common POW "flimsy" style 2 and 4 gallon fuel cans I'd appreciate any help.

thanks for any help,
Jim

I have a dimensioned original drawing of a POW can but itís not the same as the notorious flimsy. Will see if I can dig it out from my stash.

Thank you, if you could find that drawing it would be most helpful. I plan on making the POW cans (both sizes) as well as the flimsies. The original ones I made were done the old school way and I was wanting to give all these cans the 3D design treatment.

thanks,
Jim

Might be a long shot.... but maybe if you contact this ebay seller, he can provide you with photos and measurements. The item was not sold.

Thank you! I've written the owner to see if they'd provide measurements as the photos are good enough on their own. Excellent find and I appreciate your help!

It's strange how there are so few sources for something that they made so many of. I suppose by it's nature it was never meant to be kept around very long but you'd think that there would be many more photos and examples left.

Still looking for the more ornate commercial versions from Shell, Texaco and Esso if anyone happens across any excellent photos.

thanks!
Jim

You're welcome Jim. Here are two examples of commercial flimsy-looking 4 gallon cans :

and British 2 gallon cans have their own dedicated website
