Gents,
I'm almost done with this model, and I just couldn't stand the gun barrels being molded as a solid piece. I drilled 2 out successfully with a #76 drill bit, 2 others not so great (putty is drying for another attempt later).
Are there any brass barrels available for these machine guns? I believe they are 7.92mm Schwarzlose MG08 ball-mounted water-cooled machine guns. Or really, I just need the flared barrel tips, hollow, if something like that is available?

Failing that, does anyone know if TAKOM might sell me the sprues with the gun halves on them?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Michael Smith

Thanks Milos, those look great but 4 of them will be $30US, which is more than I paid for the kit

Gents, I found this on ebay, at $1.84 each they are much more in my price zone, do you think I could just cut of the flared tips (are these flash suppressors or something?) and attach them to the kit guns?

It depends on how accurate you want it to be. If close enough is good enough maybe these will work.

I think you will find those have a much shorter suppressor though. Do you have any 38t based kits? If so compare the barrels of the MG in that as that is what the ones you found are meant to replace.

The part of the barrel behind the suppressor is different, so you would have to use only the very end section, and that would be a tenuous hold prone to breakage.

Understood and agree. As far as "prone to breakage" if I don't get the muzzles fixed in some cheap way, there WILL be breakage, one Skoda Turtle hitting the wall! ;-)

Aber do a set of just the muzzles, 35L171. I believe you get a mixture of MG08 and 08/15 types. Taurus also do a set of the aero type in resin, but in 1/32: D3222. I've got both sets somewhere as I used a couple on some Zebrano MG08s where I messed up the drilling-out too. But of course now I can't find them.

Actually you might want to consider the Zebrano MG08s if you want complete gun replacements. 6 in a pack. Not expensive.

Thanks, I will look those up. I just received 3 of the barrels that I posted the picture of (that's all he had) they are beautiful and delicate, they might be a tad smaller than the kit barrels, suppressors, whatever, but it looks like the may work if I cut them off with just a little bit of the longer part left to glue into the hole.

If that works then I just have to source the 4th barrel, or maybe this thing just becomes the Nazi police car with the frame antenna!
