Hello Hakan:

These nets from the factory are in tan and green as AFV decribes. I have never seen the gray. My suggestion would be to put the nets into a zip lock plastic bag and add about 1 tablespoon of whatever pigment you are using to weather your M-ATV. Close the bag and shake the heck out of it. These nets picked up the color of the dust of the surrounding area.

While you are at it, throw the tires in the bag as well. wipe the sidewalls and top of the tread pattern down with a soft cloth.

Have fun on your build and post some pictures please.

Take note that the AFV nets are a kind of decals. You have to spray them with some paint, dip them in water then wrap them around a cardboard frame and finally extend them to get the final shape.
From experience I can tell this is not an easy job. But if you don't break the net, the result is very nice.

When I was in( got out in 2012) I saw only two types, woodland 3 color camo and desert dark tan/light tan camo. A new camo netting was being filed when I was on the way out. It had a mesh netting on one side. It still was same same colors though. Gino (HeavyArty) or Robert (18Bravo) could better explain this since they are both still in.

I can confirm what Pete says. Only two net color types that I saw; woodland and sand.

I am no longer active duty though. I retired on 1 Sep '17 after a little more than 23 years. Hard to believe it was over a year ago now. I am somewhat still in the loop though since I am now a contractor at USCENTCOM J5 (Plans, Policy, and Strategy) at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL.

My idea of camouflage may differ slightly. That's drying Iraqi mud on my leg. My two Iraqi brothers are not quite finished with their cammo. (Neither am I for that matter.)



Last time I fiddled with a cammo net was spraying Krylon through it on a Hilux.

There are a couple things I would add.

First, the border of the material in the eBay link looked to be horribly out of scale. For 1/35th that border would translate into about 6 or 8" wide. At least that's how it looks to me.

Also, has the shape of these nets changed from the "olden days" right after Desert Storm? All our nets came in large bundles: a large hexagonal section and a smaller diamond shaped section. The only options were "radar scattering" or "radar absorbant".

@Gino: July 2018 was the 30th anniversary of when I left for Basic Training.

I guess you're maybe talking about the ULCANS (Ultralightweight Camouflage Net System). It provides not just visual concealment but also a minimum of an 80% reduction in thermal signature. It's radar scattering as well...
