I'm assuming, going by the two pockets on the thighs, that this is the denim tank suit. The demin tank suit I had in my possession for a while was very definitely green not brown - back in the day, we only had Humbrol paint, and the best match for the colour of mine was Humbrol 86 Light Olive.

Thank you Sir! I already got the correction from a good buddy that sent me a pic of his original suit. His example is a grey green, very much like the WWII USMC denim fatigues.

Jerry,

I'd have to agree with Phil here; in those far off days when I was a Junior Leader (ie when one could join the Army at 15)once promoted with our own range of ranks - which were abandoned once we hit adult service - we were issued with brassards sporting stripes, crowns etc all produced in red. But the brassards themselves were produced by the Unit Tailor from old stocks of WW2 Denims. I've just dragged mine out from my box of ancient memorabilia and I would certainly concur that a light olive green was the colour. If I was using Humbrol colours myself(and I do!) I would probably lighten the 86 with a touch of khaki drill (72) just to reflect wear and tear and endless washing of the article.

The web belt and holster of course are another story and I've located this site which might help reduce the mysteries of the elusive cleaning medium known as "Blanco":

https://www.blancoandbull.com/the-blanco-story/

I would think that the options for the Yeomanry come down to No 97 Khaki Green Medium, No 103 Khaki Green Light, or possibly KG3 Khaki Green Dark.

I'm not suggesting you get too wrapped around the axle here; besides, the Northants Yeomanry would have had their own rules and regulations which may well have been independent of any Royal Armoured Corps diktat, not least as they were part of the Territorial Army and would cite that "doing their own thing" was all part of being as such.

The pistol would probably have been attached to the wearer by a lanyard but I'm sure you're well up to speed on all that Jerry, having espied your earlier diorama re the Scottish Infantrymen.

Keep it up Jerry - as ever - looking good!

Brian

Thanks for the info Brian as usual.
I made the corrections already based on a real uniform a buddy of mine has. I had already shaded and re shaded the yellow version so I hated to go back for a re-paint but well....there it is.

Here is the original paint job.

And the re-touched version.

I have another very very good modeler I know since the Army days and he sent me pics of tins of the various Blanco colors. I didn't know they had them from white all the way to black! I kept my guy as is because you can't see it anyway down in his hatch. I also won't add a lanyard as it won't be seen but I did add some needed detail to the head set, plus the running horse cap badge.

Thanks for checking in as usual,
J

You managed a running horse capbadge???!!

Puts my usual blobs of silver or gold to shame!

'Don't know whether or not you plan to add any rank: if an officer then for the tank suit then badges (of rank) would probably have been on a removable cloth slide on each epaulette. Background colour for RAC would have been yellow although it's conceivable that the Yeomanry might have some other colour derived from their history (always a can of worms when dealing with the British Army).

However, I'm sure you'll have a handle on all this - anyone who can produce a capbadge to that degree of accuracy doesn't need any lessons from me!

Just love it Jerry, just love it.

Ron and Brian,
Thanks for checking in guys and commenting!
Brian, the pics I have of officers around tanks in Normandy don't show the rank slips on the epaulets. Maybe left off because of "snipers" which every German rifleman was called during that fight?

Just began the newest figgy. Officer on the Brigade staff "not having it" with the resistance being put up by the HJ. Also by Miniart. Hornet head. Just tacked together so far.

The brass barrel is a thing of beauty. Alum tube even has rifling in the tip and the break is in 3 brass parts.

Got some work done on the weathering and stowage.

Going for the period weather conditions as far as the mud goes. Layer of dry mud underneath with partially dried mud on top. Still have to blend the sides with the underneath of the fenders.
I like how the gas cans turned out as well. Bronco did a great job on those.

I think we all just thought you were having an extended snooze Jerry, nothing’s worse than waking a dioramacist with a sore head (I should know) - great work, it’s already looking the biz. Please proceed!

Hi Jerry

Please continue to post. I have to admit I've been a long admirer of your work and will usually look at any of your threads, watching how you've improved your dioramas over the years from very good to excellent, but I've never commented or posted, so I hope by breaking that habit it will encourage you to keep on posting.

All the best

Jerry , sorry I haven't been around to boost your ego , your work is always worth a boost . Just got back to posting Friday , prior to that I had an unscheduled hospital visit , seems I decided to fall off my roof trying to remove a broken branch . Luckily a stack of firewood broke my fall and even luckier no broken bones just many , many bruised ribs and bones .
I started responding to some of the work here and had to go lay down after a short stint at the puter before I got to your progress .
Keep going man it's always a treat to watch your work !!!

Hello Jerry

I can't speak for others but I for one kept checking for updates, so just because no-one is re-reading older posts doesn't mean they don't want to see new ones :-)
So yes, keep it going, please.

It's looking really nice, I love the mix of paint, rust and polished metal on the tools. Excellent. Nice to see some mud in Normandy, too

Keep it up, looking forward to further progress

Cheers

Sean

PS As it's a Cromwell you might want to refer to it as "petrol"...

Ouch Glenn, at least you’ll only have unusual abstract technicolour temporary tats for a while, glad it wasn’t more serious. So you didn’t get the memo about retired men & ladders/roofs eh? Check out hospital accident stats.

Jerry I see you’ve re-routed to the AFV forum for this build so maybe you’ll get more lurkage. Come back soon

Yep,there is a mounting stack of "honey does" building up around here. I haven't been able to get to the bench for about 4 days now because of it and I haven't made a dent!
All I can do at this point is pray for rain.

Wow man, hope you recover quickly from that. It sounds like you missed a big bullet there for sure.
I always have to explain around here even though I made 39 jumps as a Para,I am afraid of ladders! Even 3 step ones. I can't explain that at all. Maybe because of what happened to you?

LoL yes,I will have to remember "petrol" of course!
Sorry about my words. I read it again and it does sound petulant a bit. I was wondering where everyone got to really.
This back and forth is what I love on this forum.
Do you think that looks like rust on the shovel? I was going for paint/primer/bare metal. Maybe my color is off?

Very true about retirees and ladders/roofs. That combo is ripe for disaster. I try to avoid it.
I put the tank build on the other forum because it dawned on me it was....a tank. I thought maybe folks tuning into this forum expecting a dio build would be put off seeing that tank build. I figured I would show the vehicle on the other forum until it's done ,then switch back here when I go back to groundwork, figgies, etc etc.
I may have done too many figure WIP here though and have reached a saturation point? I will be happy to continue with them if folks think they are still useful though.

As the spring thaws, along with my workshop, I return to find Jerry back at making me feel rather insecure again about my work!

Not really... I know I work at my own level and he has his. I just wish the genie in the bottle would grant me more wishes... having some of the many talents I see here would take about five wishes!

Great work, Jerry! You just keep on posting. It always makes me feel good seeing a new Rutman in progress.

Interesting you brought this up. I read a guy from FB last week talking about being hesitant to post as he didn't think his work measured up. My response was, there is ALWAYS somebody better than you are. Always. No matter what skill level. So I told him to post away brother!
It is what it is.

I am in a "mediocre modelers" group on that platform and I can tell you that lots of that work is far from mediocre. The name is just sort of tongue in cheek and the page was started by a LHS owner in the Phoenix.

Whenever someone asks about figures, I always refer them over here to look for three names... Rutman, Tim Dioramartin, and Cheyenne. Don't know if they bother but boy, can they learn sum stuff here!

I always enjoy seeing what you are working towards... it gives me a place to dream and have hopes of someday achieving. But I muddle my way through...

Keep it up, Jerry!
