I don't know why it is, but for some reason the MiniArt Soviet Ball-Tank fascinates the Hell out of me! I know it's totally made up; but still, it looks so cool! Or maybe it's just me?!

So, here's what I'm proposing. Let's so a strictly ball-tank campaign. It can be scratchbuilt or kit. Any size or scale. Let your Freak Flag fly! I know the kit is supposedly "Soviet"; but do it however you want! Give it whatever crazy-a**ed paint scheme you can come up with! Who's with me?!

Have you ever seen the Kubelpanzer the Soviets captured in Manchukuo from the Japanese?Really wish they had done that instead, but I am thinking of looking into how much work it would take to rebuild into on of those.

I did find this one on Squadron's site: https://www.squadron.com/Kugelpanzer-41-r-w-Interior-p/ma40006.htm

I don't even know why I like this one so much! I just think there are lots of things I can do with it. Thought maybe others might as well.

I would go here for that kit. In stock and cheaper

I like the MG kit better then the cannons. MG's seem more realistic. I do like the idea of a ski version.

I have started the AMG BT-102 kit. It's like a quarter of the size of the MA kit, made for one person and not 5 like the MA kit.

To be honest, I didn't really know there was more than one kit until I started looking at the one Jase was talking about earlier in his post.

I'd be OK with it being a general "ball tank" campaign and not specifically the MA kit. I already had plans to replace the machine guns on the Soviet kit with Browning .30 cals anyway; but that's as much as I'll give away at this point.

I built a review sample for the Big A, but would be happy to paint & finish it here.

Speaking of the big A, I just saw that Amazon has one with the ball on skis!

Ah - the other "Big A". Mine was here, but never got paint. If you can, get the ski version so it won't roll away!

Yeah, I figured you were meaning here!

Like I said, I don't know why I like it. It just looks cool to me!

I'm already thinking about stuff like losing the rubber tire and fashioning something like some Sherman tracks.

What about a M2/3 halftrack or BA-64-3SKh tracks. I lean towards the BA-64 given the source.

Just an idea...https://www.shapeways.com/product/X2R4RY4NH/1-35-scale-soviet-ba-64-3skh-tracks

Overall I would think something home grown for replacing the track T-34 or one of the light tank designs.

My $0.02

I'm thinking kind of a reverse Lend-Lease kinda thing and I just like the look of the T54E1 and T56E1. I've also thought about maybe something like the waffle pattern of the jeep or deuce and half tire.

I'm picturing a diorama, with it leaning into a turn, on sets of tracks! Cool...

Are you talking center/main "track" or outside wheels? I guess really you could change it all if you wanted.

I do find it interesting that depending on the kit the center/main "track" pattern changes.

Yep. Just the center tread. I don't see the side wheels having enough detail to worry about.

That's just about what I plan to do with it though. I wanna see what everyone else can do. I mean, this is a fictional vehicle so everyone can use their own creativity.

I agree.

My thoughts where for upgrading the training wheel with track and keeping the center as is.

Thrown track on the center would be a PITA to fix.

OK. So let's get 10 people to say they'll participate and we can get this thing rolling. I haven't really thought much about a start date yet. I didn't want to get too far ahead of myself.

If it will be ball tank campaign then I'm in. Willing to scratch build a what-if ball tank of the period, but not Sharotank (too many kits in stash already).

For anyone in need, Creative Models has the Sharotank in its weekly specials at the moment, down from £39.99 to £25.99.

Not connected to Creative in any way - just another shopper...

I'm in, most likely with a scratch build, but might default to a kit. The scratch build has been on my mind for a while.

Happy Modeling,
