Okay. You wanted Caunter, you got it. A couple of touchups needed, but I'm generally happy with the outcome.

I was quite surprised at the colour mixes, but Mike Starmer matched the mixes to actual BSC samples, so I'll accept it. He did warn people the colours might surprise some and he was not wrong. Silver Grey is more pea soup green!

A slight lightened mist coat over the slate has been done, but weathering will take care of the others.

Well Peter, they don't surprise me. I never used Mike's mix since I am avoiding Tamiya paints. And I like to play smartass and mix my own shades. So, to my eyes, they are spot on. Great job on Caunter scheme.

Mike H,
If the collor looks right to you, it is the right collor
You can always treat your gun with some brownish wash and get the orthodox look!

Mike F,
Look forward to see the scratchbuilt detail(I can imagine the sheer size of it) you sanded off.
BTW-I've been there too- and too often...
That's why I started taking close shots of details I think I finished, transfer the picture/s to my laptop and do a carefull inspection on my laptop screen.
More often than not I find something odd

Looking forward to see how you Humber unfolds, Stephen!

And it was worth the waiting,Peter!
The Caunter on your A-9 looks awesome!
I'll use the Portland Stone recipe for the Windwagen build I have in mind.I only wish Gecko's Pneumonia Wagon is released soon- I already feel my fingers itching

Take care and keep Bronco-building

I'm impressed, Peter. You're going to make me buy a British machine just to make camouflage. Good luck.

Peter
Your Caunter paint scheme looks great! I had never paid much attention to this camo scheme but your build and paint work so far caught my attention. This will be a stunner when you are finished with the model.
Have fun modeling

Now that my launch base is near completion, my attention has now turned to the Dongfeng-1 missile itself. It looks a lot like its ancestor, the V-2, when it is siting by itself on the workbench. Here's a comparison between the Dongfeng-1 and a standard German V-2 in the same scale. The V-2 is the top missile half while the Chinese upgraded version is on the bottom. Big difference, eh? It is easy to see why the range was doubled and the accuracy increased when comparing the different generations of missiles. It is now on to actually building the missile!

I've done a fair bit of work on the KV85. Here are a couple of pics of the subassemblies I've done so far. I'm not sure how this is going to work out. I decided to complete the lower hull and paint and weather it, and the tracks before adding the fenders and upper hull. So, the lower hull is painted and the basic weathering is applied. I'm waiting for some paint to finish that.

I built and primed the turret.

I've started assembling the tracks. Bronco tracks == LUVVVVVVVV.

Nice progress, Phil!

I usualy divide tedious work(like assembling tracks) in many sessions- that helps breaking up the monotony

Agreed. Assembling the Bronco tracks is really a breeze. I guess it is a bit tedious. So far, I've done two half runs, so about a half run at a time is a good amount.

But I spent some time this AM searching for Bronco track sets. I wish they did a set for the T-34....

Phil,

Check out MiniArt's tracks for T-34, they're pretty good:

Interesting that you say that about the miniart tracks. It seems like most reviewers say they aren't really workable. Have you got them to work? Is there a trick to it? I've been hesitating on the miniart su85 because I'm apprehensive about the tracks....

Thanks Everyone.

Mike that certainly is a whole lot more 'bang for the Yuan'.

Phil looking great. I usually do the short runs like that myself. Even though the A9 tracks were link and length, they have very small attachment points to I needed to do them in runs as well, else they would pull apart very easily. I am currently building their Loyd Carrier and they are very, very delicate. Much shorter link and length runs for that (Read half the curve around the Drive sprocket and idler at a time!)

Phil,

I somehow missed the fact that you're looking for working T-34 tracks...I wouldn't call MiniArts T-34 tracks "working".

AMOF I always had issues with their "working" tracks(Ya-12, SU-76 kits), particularly when they were using their old, brittle styrene.
The nibs on their tracklinks are too small (and too soft) to hold the next link, on the other hand-when using solvent glues, the links lack enough contact surface.

I usualy glue my link and length tracks, so I only judge them by the level of detailing and the crispness of their casting(where MiniArt has high scores).

Yeah, they look both very accurate and very detailed. I may get the kit and just assume they are going to be single link tracks, but I wish Bronco or Ryefield made T-34 tracks that were comparable to the workable tracks I have for them.

Um, by the way, I don't know your name. You keep addressing me and I don't know how to address you.

Thanks for your encouragement and your enthusiasm.

Regards,
Phil

No problem Phil,

My name is Angel

I have the early SU-85 kit, it has the "working", not the individual link and length tracks:

I really do not understand why they call these type of tracks 'workable'. There is no way they would hold up to being rotated a lot, and who needs them to rotate anyway? No serious modeller is going to push the model along the bench going "Vroom, vroom...Boom, Boom" are they?

They are better described as 'click together track links', 'pivotable track links' or even 'glue-less assembly track links included". Then just think of the Chinese/Japanese to English Translator results on that:
"No glue in backside rotation shoes inserted!!"....

I made some more progress on my Dongfeng-1 build. I have the missile mostly built. I still need to add the various vents near the base of the missile but otherwise it is complete. The main missile halves were a bit warped so filler and sanding were the words of the day. There looks to be flat conduit on the sides of the missile but with the sanding required they got rather damaged and looked like crap. I replaced the sanded conduit sections with white evergreen strips. Next step is the first coat of primer which I am expecting to highlight seams that will need filling.

Have fun modeling!

I fully agree with you, Peter!
"Workable track" has a pinch of deception, unless each track is a multi-part assembly- not that we complain less with those...

Well done Mike!
A very clever save on the shaved conduit,

Take care all!
And keep modelbuilding!

' A bit warped'... that could be referring to me too!!

Looking very nice Mike.

Well decals down, flat coat on, base colour on tools etc, and weathering started... Oh, and Tommy has a head!

Wow ... Impressive work Peter. Camouflage and weathering were perfect. I like it a lot. Well done.
Is the machine part of the 7th Armored Division "Desert Rats"?

Thanks Kalin, a way to go yet.

Yes it is an 8th Army 'Desert Rat' vehicle. This particular vehicle was eventually destroyed in action.
