Howdy Y'all
I signed up using the link in the "forums" section. This campaign doesn't show up in the "campaigns" section. There could be a glitch somewhere.
Take care,

Hello everyone,

just a question before I enlist: would a german "Waffenträger with 12,8cm PaK (Krupp)" fit this campaign?

Happy modelling

hello Alex,

from what I can see on the internet/Wikipedia it was designed to kill tanks, so that makes it a tank destroyer in my book but I am not very knowledgeable on this vehicle.

as far as I am concerned, it's an acceptable vehicle to build in this campaign.

wishing you all the best.

Just a thought and I may well be very wrong with this, but did the Waffenträger - 12,8cm PaK ever get produced and mounted to a tracked base ? I thought it was just a concept ?

if it was never produced, are "what if" tank destroyers going to be ok ? as I would do one as well ?

Good point John, I'm trying to stay away from the "what if's" as i was planning on organising a "Paper Panzers Campaign" later on. I might go back and add that to the rules, that the vehicles concerned should have seen combat. if anyone here can shed some light on the subject then i would appreciate it.

at the moment, i've come home from a 15 night shift and so my only interest is a duvet and a big fluffy pillow

LOL .... time to hit that fluffy pillow ......

I did a very quick hunt around and I am pretty sure it was only ever a concept for a tracked based vehicle - turreted or with only the front deflection shield. It was produced as the detachable wheeled version for the AT role.

If you do get to organise the "what if paper panzer" campaign I will be on board with that one .......

Hi Alex, hi guys,

I have a similar question: I have been thinking of building Trumpeter's "Krupp/Ardelt Waffenträger 88mm PAK 43" for this campaign, since it is slowly turning into my stash's dust catcher. I am quite sure a couple of these did actually see combat in the final months of the war, so I understand that it would qualify? If yes, count me in!

Regards,
Lukas

I think i have seen some faded images of a destroyed one in the final days of Berlin and definitely seen an image or 3 of one captured by the Russians. might be worth while doing some more research Lukas

If anyone is brave enough, I have seen an image of an 88 mounted onto a T34 chassis ... now that would be cool ....in fact, I have an 88 in the small stash I have ...if I only had an old T34 lurking around ..... however ... this image is also said to be fake ....which is a shame as it looks cool, so maybe a "what if" contender for the next campaign ??

yes, the image I am aware of with an 88 was heavily photo shopped. Even to the point of that things in the photo were changed for no real reason.

Then I will wait for the "Paper Panzers Campaign".
But surely I will follow this campaign.

Happy modelling

I hate to be a PIA but would a Pantherturm work? I might do Pantherturm for this campaign and then use the rest of the Panther model for the Paper Panzers campaign. That is if a Flak Panzer Coelian Panther would work for the Paper Panzers campaign.
Take care,

Yeah, my memories were also rather faded. I did some research, but only came up with "vague" sources. I found a couple of pictures (two of them on Pinterest) of Russian soldiers mounting the weapons platform and even one where they're loading the PAK 43, but in terms of actual combat history, all the internet sources conclude: unknown. Same with my trusted book for German tank destroyers.

Now, I also have Tamiya's Jagdtiger in 1/35 in my stash ... ;-)

Adding to the previous post: The English Wikipedia has an entry for the "Ardelt Project" (which Trumpeter's Waffenträger Krupp/Ardelt" represents) and claims a combat history "near Berlin at Brandeburg with 3rd Panzer Jäger Abt. attached to Infantry Division `Ulrich von Hutten`", but I can tell you that the German "Brandeburg" is a misspelling and the Wikipedia article also does not provide any sources.

Now, there is this picture I found on a German forum (hope the links works):

https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3575/5799901218_2224e98439.jpg

And also the fact that they have one on display at Kubinka. So the question is: It was definitely built, but no confirmed combat history. Is it still eligible for the campaign?

Lukas

Don't mean to spam the forum, but for those interested there is a Russian article dealing with the Waffenträger:

http://zhurnalko.net/=weapon/tankomaster/2000-03--num24

Since I don't speak Russian, I'll leave it to someone who does, maybe he/she can confirm anything from the link.

The image you posted is one of the ones I have seen, and the one I saw in Berlin had been destroyed so that surely must mean it had been in combat ... I mean I cant imagine the Berlin defenders just driving it around sight seeing in the middle of a raging battle, however, this is Davids party so he must have the final say ....

I'm already enlisted. I think I will build a Hetzer. But what about an AMX-13 105 mm? Does it count as a tank destroyer or is it an ordinary tank?

well it's described as a light tank, so I would so no as it wasn't purpose built as a tank destroyer.

hope this helps
