I'm going to change my first entry. I got inspired by a build I've seen on M.L. Operation Danube.
It started about 1 month after I was born in 1968.
I'm going to build a T-62. I Found a very inspiring photo for that.
Think the Sd.Kfz.8 has to wait another year or so.
All ingredients are on order and will come soon so I can start.

Me building Russian Tanks.

Kalin,

Nice progress. I just started my first aircraft build and I see you have PE wiring for the engine. My kit also has the same type of wiring assembly. Any advice as to the best way on installing it. I assume you use CA glue, thick, thin?

Looks promising sofar, keep us posted(should you run out of styrene shapes-gimme a call!)

Robert building Russian tanks

I assume it will not only be Russian built T-62, but also a Soviet Army T-62.
I'm looking forward to see your build!

Mark, thanks for the kind words. Regarding PE engine wiring: I use thin CA glue. With thin elements, I apply it with a cloth. The cables are best shaped after being mounted on the engine shaft. If you preform them, there is a danger that they will break during installation.
Good choice Robert. It will be interesting for me to see his realization.

Peter,

I not sure on your model version but I had the Ausf F. model and I had to rebuild the exhaust on it as it was completely wrong. You will find that you will need to hang the metal artillery shell with the crane to keep the lines on the crane taught, unless you plan on having the crane in the storage position or glue them in place.

Mark

You are right Mark. I had forgotten about the exhaust. It is too short and the mounting brackets are located too far toward the centreline, etc.

I cheated on the rounds. I built up the aluminium one, made a mould and then cast up replacements so I could drill out and add the detail around the rear. It also saved trying to sand seam lines on the plastic ones. The weight of the resin is enough to keep the lines tight, especially as I replaced the kit twine.

Looking good Kalin. I hope all that work is going to be visible!!!

You made a great start Mike. I am doing Hobby Boss's Dana for another build, and I hear you on the 'hours worked but little to see front'.....

Hi guys! After some delay, you can coun't me in. I finally found the time to start with the build. My contribution to the campaign will be Trumpeter's JS-3M which I plan to finish as a vehicle of the Egyptian 4th Armored Division (1967).

I read some reviews online and decided to finally buy it since the price at my local store dropped below 20,- €. I'll build it OOB mostly, but I had a duplicate of Eureka's IS-2/IS-3 tow cables which look really nice, so I'll add those to the kit.

Mark, really interested in your build of the E-100. I always liked the aesthetics of the concept and finally build Trumpeter's "new" version with the Krupp turret last year, the thing is massive in 1/35. Have fun with your build!

Regards,
Lukas

Paint's on. I have a couple of small parts to add to the wheels and shield. Once those are primed, painted, and added I'll do some detail painting and that'll wrap up this little gun.

That gun sure looks nice, Mike! :-) Do you also plan on adding a crew to the build? I suppose Trumpeter didn't include one the kit, at least I never built one where figures were included.

I finished the lower hull of my JS-3 and also the wheels, already put black primer on them because I want to put the tracks on BEFORE putting the upper and lower hull together. Some of the reviews of this kit stated that the vinyl tracks were not that good, I think they are not bad.

Ay yi yi, that's a lot of fixing. I don't know how much I will attempt to fix but I'm still going to build it.

Thanks for all the info.

Making progress on the JS-3M. Finished the lower hull, started on the upper hull, weathering the tracks. Good fit of all parts so far.

No figures were included Lukas which seems to always be the case with Trumpeter. I've never done figures so I'd probably not do them anyway (yet - one of these days!).

Trails, gun carriage, and wheels are done. Shield has been painted and just waiting on me to install. I didn't think I'd do weathering, but now I think I'll do some (before the shield is attached).

YES. My T-62 arrived today. First upgrade also came in, now waiting for the Voyager set and then we can make a Kick off Photo to start my Trumpeter campaign for 2020.

Kind regards,

Speedy J. I am going to build the T-62 mod 1972 in Syrian livery for the campaign. Can I ask you what upgrades you think are “necessary” for the T-62? I have never done a Russian tank and would love to hear your insight. I was inspired by a documentary I watched on the Yom Kippur War a few weeks ago. I will post my start pic soon.

Hello all, I am entering the campaign with the T-62 mod 1972. This is my first experiencewith a Soviet or Trumpeter kit, and I plan to build this with Syrian army livery. While the reviews on this kit are good, there are some inaccuracies such as the fender fuel tanks and fuel line piping. This kit comes with T-72 type track which understand there is some debate about. Does anyone know the proper track for Syrian,1973 T-62s?. Also, The Dshk 12mm mg may be weak on the Trumpeter kit, would love some recommendations on replacement. Looking forward to the build! Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Hi Bryan,

I have built a number of russian tanks recently, all with upgrades. I would look around the Voyager / ET Model sets on the Luckymodel website as they provide photos about the installments, so you can have a good understanding of the details enhanced.
I replaced the Trumpy tracks in the kit from a Takom individual track set because in my opinion that is nicer in details than the Trumpeter kit ones. You can also consider Miniart track or if your budget is higher, Friulmodels metal tracks.
About the AA machine gun: I believe that the Voyager / ET Models set would give enough extra details to have a nice representation.
In case of a more dramatic scenario, you can find burnt roadwheels to have a partially damaged tank.

Regards and have fun!

Hi Bryan,
as far as the tracks, if what's included in the kit is as shown on the boxtop those aren't T-72 type rmsh tracks but omsh type originally fitted to the T-62 . A quick google image search "Syrian 1973 T-62 " shows this type predominates.

I checked the track in the kit and it appears to be the later t-72 style track, despite the earlier omsh track being pictured on the box art. A bit of a disappointment but I do not think I will buy omsh track as the drive sprocket apparently will need to be changed as well. Perhaps some of the t-62s during the Yom Kippur War had the newer track, however I cannot find any photographic evidence of this. Oh well.

Nice choice, Joseph!

The actual designation of this tractor is ATS-712.
I have some pictures from the vehicle in NMMH-Sofia, PM me if interested,
