To be honest: sounds like a rip off...

I’ve noted there are three types of sellers on Ebay, and sometimes it’s hard to tell them apart:

1) honest ones who know what they sell
2) folks who don’t really know what they are selling
3) dishonest ones

If you look at the 2 pages of other stuff this seller has, they are mostly imported boat trolling motors, along with a few model kits—imported Merit stuff mostly.

I’m thinking this guy may have more than ten in stock as he says he does, but I’ll bet they’re the Dragon 1/72 kit, as pictured in the listing photos. Or as Robin states, he’s selling ahead of a release. I’ve seen this a lot on Ebay, where sellers post something and sell something else. I always try and buy from folks who have lots of positive ratings, and generally know something about the product they sell. This one doesn’t have very many ratings at all (63?) although it states he’s got something like 266– but for which product? It just seems strange to me too this kit is nowhere to be seen in the big name manufacturers catalogs and wasn’t at Nuremberg last week, along with the other new items from Trumpeter and HB. And yet here it is, supposedly in California, already at some outdoor goods seller who wants $259 for it (plus tax and shipping don’t forget), but with pictures of the Dragon 1/72 plastic kit. As I said, buyer beware. This is why I don’t buy a lot of stuff from Ebay on an impulse reaction— but that’s just me I guess.

Has anyone heard more news on this? The guy is still selling on Ebay under the Trumpeter label

See my research about this seller above:
1) haswingoutdoor (the Ebay vendor) is primarily a supplier of electric fishing troller motors
2) They are supposedly a Chinese importer located in southern California
3) What they show as “release photos” are actually photos of the Dragon 1/72 scale kit
4) they seem to have borrowed the same photos of the I ❤️ Kits box from Scalemates.
5) they list only about 66 positive sellers, but on the offering it shows they have more than 266 positives. But the only positive comments for models are for a few Merit international model kits.
6) they do list a “smattering” of models kits for sale in between their listings of trolling motors, but not many—most are Merit kits.
7) They say they’ve sold “one” Atomic Cannon with more than ten in stock. I find that hard to believe.
8) Since no retail price has been announced, I’m trying to figure out how they came up with their price. Add in tax and shipping, and you’ll likely be over $300.
9) there is one positive review for an atomic cannon, which says it was the item “as described” (I assume it’s for the “one” that has supposedly sold).
My biggest problem with this offering is the yet unknown price point, and using the Dragon 1/72 scale kit photos. I sure hope the one positive customer didn’t pay $259 for a Dragon kit, because that’s what’s described.
So it’s up to you to decide. I think I’ll wait until it’s offered elsewhere.

Just relax and build some other kits while waiting.

Been thinking about this a little bit. I personally wouldn’t “jump” at this particular Ebay offering, but don't want to put off anyone that would, based solely on my comments. I’m not trying to say the seller is dishonest or engaged in false advertising (although it sort of looks fishy). It’s possible he indeed has “a line” on Merit kits coming from China (and the new 1/35 Atomic Annie box art certainly looks like a Merit [not Trumpeter] offering). It could be this guy has some “initial issues” outside of a Merit packaging under the I ❤️ Kits label (could also be they’re knock offs). It would be nice if the guy who supposedly bought that single kit would “pop-up” somewhere and tell us exactly what he bought. All I’m saying is, you could be taking a chance with your money or your time here. If I was rich and had $300 bucks to throw away, I’d volunteer to take a chance, but since I’m not, I won’t, I’ll wait and see.

I remember when some guys at another site took a chance on some Tamiya Corsairs a guy was selling at a fraction, and ended up getting USB cords and phone chargers instead. Seller claimed they were mis-packs by his employees. Fortunately ebay's buyer protection saved the day.

And then I experienced a guy who was selling a kit under-priced because apparently some 'fell off a truck' and he got a very good deal on them.

So you never really know.

So I did a “practice buy” on line— and the cost would come out to a little over $285 for me from this seller, because my State has close to 9% sales tax. The shipping is “free” according to the seller (but I imagine it’s rolled into the cost of the kit). I’ve found nothing is entirely “free” of shipping costs on Ebay, I’ve only found “free” shipping on Amazon, and only some of the time (unless you have Prime, and then you’re still paying something for shipping in your annual fee). As I went through his positive comments (can you tell that I’m “maybe”, “might” or “almost” on the fence considering ordering— all against my own advice— mostly out of curiosity?) I alsofound several comments registered as “positive” that indicated the item was never shipped but was refunded— mostly for trolling motors. Tell you what, if I win the lottery, I’ll order one just to see how it works out...”if” I win the lottery— which will be difficult since I don’t play the lottery...

Be sure and post it so the rest of us can see it too, as I said, if I had a little more faith in this seller, and $285 just lying around, I might take a chance, just out of curiosity. However, since it’s tax season and an election year to boot, I don’t have much faith in anything anymore!

So I just got a “re-listed” notice in my inbox— but nothing has really changed, except now it shows two have sold as of today, with more than 10 left. I do see there’s a description posting which adds it’s a “new 2019 kit” box size is 24”x14”x5”, which is considerably larger than the Dragon 1/72 kit box. So, perhaps this is legit after all.

Why, why on earth would you do that? Just to "see"?!? I wouldn't risk $5 on that. It looks like the kit is coming, and it will almost certainly be available for less once it is on sale at the usual places. This urge to "be the first on your block" to have something new is exactly what they are counting on.

Just wait.

The mere fact that so many (that is, any) people are checking back on the listing, analyzing the particulars in detail, and contacting the seller, apparently quite credulously, is frightening.

ummm "new 2019"???? Last time I checked the calendar it said 2020 and the first rumours started popping up after New Years eve. None of the manufacturers have gone public with it so I consider 'new 2019' to be less than truthful if not an outright lie.
Maybe possibly he is taking advance orders and hope to be able to deliver sometime in the future.
Without photos of a 1/35 kits I consider this listing to be anything but legit. Build all the other kits in your stash first.

To be accurate, I started a thread about this very topic, with a link to the original source in Missing Lynx on December 6th, 2019.

The manufacturers label on the side of the box top does have a 2019 date—which just adds to the mystery a little more...

I took a chance and ordered the kit from eBay and it’s for real.

There are more pictures in the gallery, figured out my upload problem, it was the image size.
