Bishop 25 pdr SP Gun

  • move
This 25 pdr SP Bishop was built from Bronco’s kit to participate in the 500+ campaign here on Armorama. The kit went together well except for the some warped parts on the upper hull sprue. I made some changes to the superstructure to match the configuration of the specific vehicle I wanted to build and I also moved the rack for the POW cans to the rear fender to duplicate the configuration used on that vehicle. The kit has a well detailed interior so it was built very close to stock, but I did add the wiring for the radio, headset and microphone. The model was pre-shaded and painted primarily with Tamiya acrylics. The main color was mixed to represent the British color Light Stone that had faded slightly. Post-shading was used extensively to help vary the fading and wear effects and most of the detail painting was done with Vallejo paints. Chipping was done using hairspray, sponge and paintbrush techniques. Oil paints were used for washes and pigments were used to simulate the ever present dust found in North Africa. I deliberately kept the amount of dust down, as this was an artillery piece, not a tank.

There are a lot of these unbuilt in stashes all across the world. Nice to see a well done example for once.

Congrats on the feature, Paul! We've been lucky enough to follow the build in the 500+ campaign. A great showcase of modelling skills!

Very nice. Are they really so rare? I built one 2 years ago!

Thanks to all for the positive comments. I don't really know about the rarity of the subject. I think it's more the fact that the kit has been out for quite a while so you seldom see them built. I don't really know why that is, but you'll see a hundred Sherman, Panther or Tiger builds for every Bishop. Personally, I enjoy building Bronco kits. I've built their A-13 Mk II Cruiser Mk. IVa, and their T17E1 Staghound in addition to the Bishop. I just wish they would tackle the rest of the early war Cruiser tanks like the Crusader series, the A9, the A11 etc...
