Red Army Whippet Tank

  • move
The British tanks Medium A Whippet was imported in Russia White Army from Britain in 1919 year during Russian civil war. The British Royal Tank Corps trained Russian volunteer officers with experience technical arms throughout 1919. Medium A Whippet «General Shkuro», No. A346, attached to the 4th Tank Detachment, 1st Tank Division. No. A346 received its name from the commander of the famous "White Wolves" cavalry. General Shkuro survived the retreat and emerged in June 1920 under General Baron Wrangel, with its same detachment and division number, for the attack on Perekop. The tank was subsequently deployed with the 1st Tank Division at Melitopol, but details of its end are currently not known beyond the fact it had to be abandoned during the White evacuation from the Crimea in November 1920.

This feature by Aleksandr Butin is a very nicely finished tank and a beautifully painted figure that is a combination of Eastern Express, Hornet, Meng, ICM, Tamiya and Epoxy putty, hence the Frankenstein comment. The interior of the Whippet has been scratch built using Evergreen plastic with the ammunition being a mix of ICM and Bronco Model offerings. The painting has been done with products from several companies including Tamiya, Vallejo, AK interactive and AMMO of Mig. This offering is displayed on a simple but effective base using a grass product from Modellers of Fortune.

I really like this, and the peak inside is GREAT! Didn't realize that Russian-bound Whippets used the red and white recognition markers, but I bow to your research.

Beautiful job Aleksandr! Perfectly constructed, painted and photographed. And if that wasn’t enough, set into the base so that you can feel the weight of the Whippet. And if that wasn’t enough congratulations for spot-lighting the little-known or forgotten British expedition to save the Romanov cause; way too late, too little and bound to fail. Ah the grass in the tracks, the stowage, the dio base/grass, the figure...everything! Superb
