Introduction

Tankograd Publishing has released the first issue of Militär Fahrzeug of 2020. This is a quarterly magazine from Tankograd publishing whose title means Military vehicle in English. This magazine covers a wide spectrum of interests in a Military vain covering vehicles from many periods and countries along with a roundup of news, events and museums.

Review

This magazine is printed in a portrait style with a light card cover with a gloss finish and the cover will hold up to reasonable handling. The paper inside is of a good quality as magazines go and also has a semi gloss finish that displays the photographs well. This offering provides 56 such pages and should have something for everyone. The text is only in German which is a shame but not the end of the world. The contents are as listed below.

Weapon systems of the Bundeswehr: New heavyweights for the Bundeswehr:
G-LTM mobile crane and G-BKF recovery vehicle
Vehicle history Bundeswehr: Founding years
Museums Events Collector's Scene: Overlord Museum
Vehicle History of the Wehrmacht: Sturmgeschütz III Ausf. D - Sonderverband 288
British Army: Challenger 2 "Street Fighter"
US Army: new self-propelled howitzer M109A7
News from the industry: Boxer recovery vehicle presented
German Armaments Products - Army: MHOV - New Zealand MAN Truck
Maneuver "Good old days": Reform Scoop 91
News from the industry: Jaguar EBRC / Griffon VBMR
Museums-Events-Sammlerszene: Panzermuseum East
Museum Events Collector's Scene: Museum of Kansas National Guard

Being written in German does have some benefit in that it is usually possible to get a good idea of what is written due to a lot of German being similar to English. The pictures speak for themselves regardless of your native tongue and the pictures are very good for the most part except where the time period and limitations in choice have been restrictive. The article on the Sturmgeschütz III Ausf. D caught my attention as Tankograd does seem to have access to particularly good period photographs which are so much more informative instead of present images of museum pieces and covers a lot of detail beyond what I was expecting. The other aspect that appeals to me as regards this subject is that there is quite a lot offered and the images start with period black and white offerings and finishes with full colour offerings of a restored vehicle; OK I also really like the Stug family of vehicles. I also like these magazines as they usually cover in a shorter way the vehicles of the upcoming or published books released each quarter.

Conclusion

These magazines from Tankograd Publishing represent an easy and affordable way to build up a reference library for your modelling. Covering such a wide number of topics means there are usually a few articles to grab your attention. The only negative to these titles is the German only text, but we cannot have everything. Well worth the cost.
