introduction

August 1944 saw the German Armies in Normandy surrounded with a narrow gap through which to still escape near Trun/St Lambert. Although in a desperate predicament the various units still maintained pretty good discipline and cohesion. Right up till they neared the narrow area of the still open exit. At this point they had to endure near constant artillery attacks and also direct fire from Canadian and British tanks, mixed in with ground attacks by fighters and fighter bombers. Casualties then broke the units apart and it was every man for himself, bunching together with soldiers from the Army,WaffenSS and Luftwaffe. Since most German artillery was still horse drawn it meant awful equine casualties as well. Every German soldier that survived will always remember the cry "Jabos"!!!

Hi Jerry, A really excellent build blog and a terrific result. You have a real gem here. Great work on modifying the bodies, detail, vehicles, animals and shubbery. A great mix of kits that blend well together for a super overall result. Cheers Al

Didn't you and this fantastic diorama win it all at AMPS Nationals in the Spring?
JUL 12, 2017 - 10:42 PM
Yes ! Yes it did ! The show was a lot closer to me than I thought and so I braved the car trip. The dio had minimal damage en route but much more going home. I seem to have hit every one of the numerous potholes going through that part of NY. Real teeth rattlers. That new replacement for the Tappensee bridge looks spectacular though, like a work of modern art. It will obviously be a big, smoother improvement to the route. Thanks Bill, J
