Hi all

Can anybody give me some advice regarding the Kirin conversion for the hardened M35 trucks used in Vietnam please?
The kit has spaced armour to the sides and rear and to the full length of the truck bed, I haven't yet found any photo's to match up to this design.
Does anyone know of any photo's online that i could use as reference for the type in the conversion?

Thanks in Advance
Dus

Hi Dave, Thankyou!!!
That page is great, got it saved in favourites now.
Not sure on trucks, I know 'Eve of destruction" fits the bill but want to have a good look through those photos and do something OD rather than black!
Once again thanks for your time and help
Dus
Oh yeah, happy new year mate.

Hi all,

I just received my Kirin conversion. After some websearch I found this topic. Can I in deed build 'Eve of Destruction' from the M35 and the Kirin conversion?
And what where the colors of this truck?

Kind regards

Marcel

Hi Marcel,
sorry, but you can't use the M35 to build "Eve of Destruction"! That was a 5t truck M54.

Those famous guntrucks except for Nancy are all M54s.

But before the M54 they used mostly M35s, most with the quad 50 M55. But a lot of them use different armor arrangements and less guns. I have a bunch of M35 kits and stuff to make them a few different models of guntruck.

On had a hexagonal??? type armored box with a 50 cal inside and a few M60s. SO many pictures on the interenet.

One quad 50 had a cool camo scheme and another with the American flag. There are a lot of cool M35 guntrucks, they did not get the notoriety of the M54s for many reasons but are just as cool.

There a few books out there like the Hard Ride and Osprey just came out with one.

"Double walled armor and hinged windshield armor also eventually found their way onto the M35, as did bullet proof vision blocks. Double spaced armor was made up of 2 layers of half inch armor with approximately one fott of space in between. ... In many cases the space between the armor was used to store sandbags, extra ammo, supplies and spare tires which increased the weight so much that the frames on many M35 gun trucks were breaking behind the cab, so the heftier 5-ton, M54A1 and M54A2 series cargo trucks were pressed into service as gun trucks."
I found this statement in "Gun Trucks In Vietnam / Have guns - will travel" James Lyles' 3rd. book concerning gun trucks.
As the Kirin conversion was waiting on my own workbench and I couldn't find any pic of an M35 with double armor in Lyles' 3 books I bought the realmodel conversion of "Assassins/Bad Dream" to build my M35 gun truck:

Let me know, if you can find a pic of a double space armor box on the M35! In the meantime I'll spend my time with "Bad Dream"
