Hi there

I am building Takoms Leopard C2.
What is the correct color of a "non Mexas" C2 ?

BTW Takom's Leopard C2 is not impressive
But with Legends update set, I't will be OK.

The color is CARC green. The best match is Tamiya NATO green

It can depend on the time frame for your C2. When we first got the 1A5 turrets, most of the hulls were still in NATO 3 colour but the new turrets were green.

During the following years most of the hulls were painted solid green, but I noticed on my tour in Afghanistan in 2008-09 there was at least one Leopard that still had it's NATO 3 colour paint scheme

That would be hard to see with the MEXAS armor on, wouldn't it? Or did they deploy without the MEXAS and add it later?

When the C2's first rolled out on Nov 23, 1999 they were painted in standard green CARC paint, which was the Canadian fleet wide paint colour, with a 100% match is NATO green from Tamiya, but will have to lighten the paint up for scale.
There were other Leopards that displayed hulls that still sported the Nato 3 tone paint, with green turrets.Plus, replacement parts even arrived in original German olive green.

If you need help with your build, let me know.

Cheers

Here's a couple screen grabs from a CF recruiting CD I have. I'll have to check it out again to see if I can make out any call sign boards on the bustle.

Cheers,

Yes with the MEXAS Armour installed, but it would still be noticeable.

The C2's became tanks of many colours after rebuilds, sporting full NATO 3 tone hulls, with CARC green turrets. And even when the MEXAS armour was added, the rear of the vehicle displayed the camouflage. They sported all types of markings, depending on the unit.

Here is a tweak list that I came up with a while ago:
C2 TAKOM Tweak List:

1) The MRS (muzzle reference sensor) located on the tip of the barrel is was too small and is the wrong size. Should be 50% bigger.
2) The canvas mantlet cover is incorrect for a C2 version, should have Velcro panels for the maintainers to work on the mantlet. The mantlet sim-fire plate should be 25% larger and add l shaped brackets.
3) The Commanders TRP sight cover is small, will need to be 25% larger. The TRP rubber seals require to be spit apart to look like two flat rings.
4) Leopard turret top should have a coat of anti-skid added.
5) Smoke grenade launchers missing chain for caps and launcher wiring.
6) The crew commanders area has the wrong number of episcopes, missing one. Both turret hatches are missing combat lock hinges.
7) The antenna mounting units (AMUs) are not the correct type, will need to be replaced.
8) Missing flag post mounts left and right sides by the AMUs.
9) The GPS antenna mount is wrong and will require to be modified.
10) Rear back bin, will require a coat of scale anti-skid on the top cover.
11) Missing the antenna bag under the back bin (not all had them mounted)
12) Supplied Jerry cans are incorrect shape.
13) The road wheels require back plate, and the hubs are the wrong shape.
14) The divers armoured cover for the episcopes require the wiper cable.
15) Missing the fording plug posts on left side of upper front hull.
16) Missing headlight & Horn cables.
17) The tow cables hull attachment points are way too thick, PE would fix this problem.
18) The rear drivers tool box is missing the locking chain and stowage bracket and hinges are incorrect.
19) The rear track adjustor tool mounted on the rear deck to wrong. We operated with a modified type due to the Mexas side armour. And was never mounted there.
20) The gun crutch or travel lock is undersized by 25 %.
21) Tank telephone handle will require to be replaced as they are very noticeably L angled.
22) Will have to drill out gun crutch spare position brackets.
23) Missing rear side skirt half-moon brackets on both sides of the rear hull.
24) The C6 mount requires a gun travel lock, and not all had the MG version. The barrel is missing the barrel handle mount.

And there are issues with the kits markings as well.

Cheers

Anthony
