Gents,

I am planning on a 3RR Sherman 5 names CAT which was in Italy, and I have a picture of her in the Steve Guthrie book Camouflage and Markings of Canadian Armored Vehicles part 2 on page 14. Can anyone tell me what colour the outside of the ring is and would the marking on the transmission cover ring be black on the inside as well?
As far as the tank goes, any idea what tracks are on the glacis plate?

As 3 Rivers was the middle regiment, the color of tactical sign would be yellow. The markings on the front, being the Divsion and Regiment signs would be on the rear of the tank, and more then like the tactical sign would be repeated on the rear of the turret.

As for the track, it looks to be the same chevron track she is wearing.

If you look at the pic, there is a number 12 in a circle, on the transmission cover. The caption in the photo says it is uncommon for the Army, but common for 3RR. I am doubly confused as Armoured Acorn has the colour as red, but I do not think it should be red, because the red/white/red flash on the side of the hull has the red barely visible. Also, Armored Acorn says the tank belongs to the Ontario Regiment.

Without being able to see the Regimental sign, it would be Red for Ontario and Yellow for 3 Rivers. Based on what I have seen, it may be a Ontario tank, thus red. But with the Tac sign on the front, that is rather strange, but it could have been done.

I have the book, I have looked at it. I also see there has been a lot of discussion on the topic at another site. While there is no Regimental Sign showing it is difficult to tell what Regiment it is actually from. while alot of people can speculate, there is no way to know for sure. I personally think it is an Ontario Regiment tank based on the darkness of the Tac sign on the front, but then I could be wrong.

I would also say, that it is an Olive Drab color, while it does show some variation, it could be many things.

After all, it is a black and white image, and it is difficult to tell.

Go with your own opinion, and model what ever you would like it to be.

The only thing bothering me about calling this tank from the Ontario Regiment, is the red around the C Squadron marking doesn't share the same characteristics as the red/white/red air recognition marking on the hull side, which makes me believe it's a different colour.

Hi Guys,

I've got a 78 page list of Commonwealth tank names and their regiments, and "Cat" shows up as an Ontario Regiment vehicle. It has the number 12 on the turret and the serial number T146371.
I've also got a partial list of known and "maybe" 3RR tanks, where "Cat" shows up. It has the same serial number, but under the notes, there is a question; "Is this a TTR tank?"
I don't quite understand the question, unless "TTR" was meant to be "TRR"

So I have finally started this project, and I hope I have the correct kit for it. I have the Taska/Asuka M4A4 with an early gun shield. Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.

That is the right kit. The Asuka M4A4 also includes the early smoke mortar.
The Asuka Instructions for the M4A4 would have you put the bromide extinguishers on backwards. They should be thick or blunt end forward (Ask me how I know. Those suckers don't come off once glued). Asuka now includes a correction sheet on the extinguisher direction in its Ic kit.

Three Rivers Regiment Markings would be yellow as Kevin has mentioned , and as part of the 1st Canadian Armoured Brigade the unit sign is listed here:

Thanks guys. I'm not sure it's a 3RR tank any longer, both Armoured Acorn says it's an Ontario tank, as does the decal sheet I have coming from Peddinghaus.
