So I got and started the Meng Cougar, will be converted to a Canadian version in Afghanistan (photo by R. Saucier)

Adding the missing bits in the rear suspension mounts:

Couple of front suspension pieces had stress fractures out of the box, currently fixing with brass wire replacements...

I used to think mold release agent in modern kits was a myth, like the Sasquatch or Global Warming, but alas, it is alive and well! I suggest a good detergent bath before any painting is attempted!

So far, I am mildly disappointed in Meng with this kit - I enjoyed building their Merkava 3D and Terminator, but this one has flash here and there, the excess mold release, the stretched appearance - just seems to be a step down. (maybe I got one built on a Friday?) I will persevere however!

Cheers,
Jim

Sweet!

I will follow your adventures as I also plan the same build. Out of the box the Meng kit looks like a better build than the Panda kit (Dimensional issues aside). But Panda has anounced an actual JERRV kit.

Decisions Decisions...

It looks like this kit comes with the front brake chambers and slack adjusters! This is something I'm going to have to scratch for my Bronco Buffalo

Wish I had my casting stuff here Rick; I'd make copies of the new bins and stuff. Perhaps another one when the Panda one comes out? Have to decide on which turret to go with as well...
And ramps, we need ramps...

Cheers,
Jim

The ramps look damn near impossible to me at least to scratch, we also need tEODor the robot. As for the turret, I've always liked the look of the low turret and chicken plate as opposed to the glass turret.

Both robots I've seen in the JERRV are out there. AFV Club does the Talon. Hobby Fan makes the other in resin and PE.

They'd be perfect for photo-etch, as well as the racks for the POL cans. Eduard...Bueller...Bueller? Maybe even 3D printed?

My bad. I thought that was a typo on the name of the robot. It looks easy enough to scratch though. I did this one before the AFV Club one came out, and it was almost identical in size. First photos are gone, but end result is toward the bottom of the page. 1/72 scale resin track works great. There's probably something out there very close to what you'd need.

https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/127673

Edit: After looking at some photos, I really want to built one now. It looks as if there must be a Roco kit out there that can be cut up fore the tracks and possibly part of the running gear. Their track is just like the robot's on every tracked vehicle they make.

Maybe Miloslav at Real Models can make a Canadian update set with a resin robot, updated interior and P.E. ramps...

that would be great if he can do...
Do you know if the US version also have the ramps or is this only a canadian thing?
If US use it also where do they have them? Inside the veichle?

Will follow this build with interest as i will build one Jerrv also...

I have only seen them on the Canadian vehicles. I think the reason is the Cobham robot is heavier then the Talon/Packbot used by the US.

On US versions ramps are stored on the fender as well, same as on the first post of the thread. I took these back on '07 on the way to Ft. Bliss prior to deploying. I had to get on front of the guy and slow down so he would pass me in order to photgraph the right side as well.

Were you at Donna Anna, NM? If so you have my sympathies. I volunteered to go to Iraq early on the ADVON just to get away from there.

Didn't we get JERRV's from the US before we bought our own? Any chance this is one of those with our ramps on it? I mean I've watched Bomb patrol Afghanistan, googled high and low and all I could come up with was one other image of a Navy Cougar 4x4 with the ramps and it looked like more of a display or advertiesment image.

Yep, with the Canadian Battle Group 3-08, I was employed with the TFK HQ J2 Ops.

Good times LOL!

Wish I had my casting stuff here Rick; I'd make copies of the new bins and stuff. Perhaps another one when the Panda one comes out? Have to decide on which turret to go with as well...
And ramps, we need ramps...

Cheers,
Jim

Just making a suggestion...John is a smart and skilled Canadian resin producer...if he wanted to create a Canadian Cougar conversion it would be a very good one.

Canada actually uses multiple types of "robots"...some big, some small.

Theodore and Vanguard are both painted in CARC green.

I would love to do more Canadian stuff, however I don't have the skill/info/time to master such items.

Now if someone is willing to make the masters for me, we can certainly discuss

Hi all,
make of ramps as PE Parts is any problem. I need photos and all base dimension. Also interior, have all Cougar manuals but any interior photos.
