I won a bid on Ebay for an Italaerei Sherman M4A1 1/35th scale No. 225. Notice the spelling. The box spells it as Italaerei. Now the spelling is Italeri. My question is approximately what would be the age of this kit. I got a great deal and thought I would build it as a historical Italeri out of the box kit.

The best Sherman kit of its day (mid 70's). It is quite sound and the only real problem is the gun barrel which has a step that should not be there (Italeri copied a repaired Museum example). The tracks are very stiff and best replaced. It has been eclipsed by later kits but is still very good and outline accurate.

Did you notice the spelling that is printed on the box?

Italaerei instead of today's Italeri

I built this kit several years ago, and it only needs a few improvements:

1. Replace the gun barrel. It has an inaccurate step in it, but turned aluminum barrels are so nice anyway?

2. Replace the tracks. As mentioned, they are stiff & IIRC not a common variant for this tank.

3. Replace the road wheels. Again not a common variant for this tank.

I also replaced all the tools on the vehicle with the now defunct(?) CMD Sherman tool set, though this might not be strictly necessary.

Also the hull and other cast parts could use some texturing.

Damon.

*****yep, I think it was in '78 or '79 they changed their name to Italeri, reportedly because it was easier to pronounce internationally.
