Now, who would want upper fuel tanks? You can't see them from outside the vehicle, not even by peering through the gratings.

I really don't understand why any modeller serious enough to consider using AM parts in their builds would ever bother trying to build Tamiya's terrible 1/25 Tiger

I suspect those who would like to build a diorama of a tank in maintenance where major engine components are exposed.

You would have to ask the modelers who purchase the product.

Tamiya's classic kit certainly has issues, like so many kits from the 1970s. Perhaps modelers still like the kit out of nostalgia (I built one as a kid back in 1979 and still have it).

But the Tamiya kit isn't the only 1/25 scale Tiger available. A modeler with a 1/25 scale Tiger or Panther made by another manufacturer (e.g. paper models) may find these parts attractive or perhaps the modeler simply enjoys the challenge of improving the old Tamiya kit (I do). It should be noted that modelers have indeed found these products helpful; they continue to sell.

Here is a list of some of the kits the Maybach motor can be used:

- Academy 1/25 scale Panther A (# 1329)

Interested in the 1/16 Tiger I barrel but the 3D views are so poor you can't really see much detail.

How to lose a sale - Lesson #1 !!!

This is, I'm afraid, the practice at Shapeways, they only show low resolution 3D images. The difference in quality between the different printing types cannot be seen - you'll just have to guess your way through.
However, the difference ís huge though; you have to chose the most expensive ones to get something remotely useful.
I think there is stil a couple of printer generations before this, otherwise brilliant, method is attractive.

And that is not a comment to this specific company, but my general thought on the matter.

Here are some photos of the actual 1/25 scale barrel 3D-printed in gray resin (click here).
The detail is easier to see in gray resin rather than Shapeways' white acrylic material.
