Here is a model that I built about 15 years ago. I took it all apart and re-did some items and re-painted it. The paint was done with Tamiya paints and weathered with oils and pigments.

I start off by color modulation. Start with black then the base and keep lighting the base until the desired result. Then comes the the decals with this time were Archer transfers. Then all tools and details are painted, along with the chips. From there it is pretty much the MIG way. Oil paints to create streaks and make a filter for the color modulations. I used Windsor and Newton paints for that. Then oil colors for a panel wash. Then on to dirt which goes on in steps. This was also done with MIG pigments. The lower parts get a good covering of dirt followed by the splashes and splatters.
