ID of Heavy Truck? Seen in KY 2016

I thought this was interesting as we were traveling I-71 south and took some photos. This was at a truck stop north of Carrolton, Ky in Jan 2016. Could you please identify the truck type and unit? Looked really new. Clearly heavy equipment. Many thanks.

The truck is an M915 Heavy Tractor built by AM General. It was used to carry cargo and fuel trailers mainly over roads. It is the military version of a line-haul truck.

Nice pictures, I used to see them in Germany with the Engineer units pulling a M870 lowboy trailer. There was also a M920 tractor too, that was used too. Miniman Factory from Hungry has these models as kits for sale.

16 speed air over hydraulic, 2 reverse, high/low range.... yup... thats what I learned on, that and an M-35 Dump

M915/M916, basically the same truck. M915 is a 4x6, while the M916 is a 6x6, the winch is not a factor in the type.
This version truck is no longer in service though. The current version is the M915A5/M916A5, which is a totally different vehicle built by Daimler-Benz.

Ummm, sorry for interfering but I get the impression that the front axle has a hump in the middle (as in powered axle) ?

Right, it is an M916..."M916 is a 6x6". I missed the axle in the original pic. Other than the powered front axle and a little taller stance, it is the same vehicle as an M915.

Yes, AM General - note embossing on the side engine cover.

So CCC designed and manufactured the original Centaur trucks, but M915 was manufactured by AM General.

The same M916 truck was still parked at the KY I-71 exit 55 truck stop on 1-28-2016 so I got 10 night photos of the back end. Sorry for the poor flash, but hope these are useful.

Stopped off of I-71 at the truck stop again in KY and our big green truck was still there in Sept 2018. Sorry for the awful cell phone photos in the middle of the night. I thought the fuel tank photo was useful. Hope to be there again in October.

That is because the kit was not available when the original thread was alive in 2016. The Trumpeter kit didn't come out until fall of '17. It is a pretty nice kit.
