Hi all,

Been working on this for a bit, and added the travel lock that sits off the exhaust, but the directions threw me a little curve. It shows the long travel lock on the engine deck too. Did this tank have BOTH travel locks or are the HB directions wrong?

Thanks.

They are wrong. On all of their kits the instructions suggest installing both of the travel locks regardless of the version.

You only have to install the long one for the pilot 2 tank.

Thanks! So should the sides of the exhaust port be filled or left open?

Does anyone have a pic of it on the pilot?

I meant that you have to install only the long travel lock on the exhaust and not on the engine deck.

John, check with Jon C. At the model cave. He has my Hunnicut book on the Pershing. This might give you more detail.

The other John that goes to the monthly meetings.

From the Hunnicut book: Photos of four T26E4s are in this book. Pics of the first two pilots, the pre-production vehicle and one production vehicle.

Pics of the T26E4 Pilot 2 (serial no. 97) vehicle show some items that HB has incorrect.

For instance, there is no phone box (B25 & B26) on the rear bulkhead nor the turnbuckles (G25 & G27) attached to the fender corners. No photos of Pilot #2 show the later, longer barrel lock -- although it's possible. Photos only show the "typical" T26E3 travel lock (B31), mounted to the exhaust housing. Omit H15, the equilibrator shroud.

The long barrel lock (H16, H18, H19), which attached to the rear bulkhead's upper edge -- was present on the T26E4 pre-production pilot and production vehicle pictures. Omit them for Pilot #2. And even on those, the exhaust housing is the older type with side "holes" to mount the previous T26E3 travel lock.

The HB decals aren't correct for pilot #2 either. They show the (I)pre-production tank and (II) the production T26E4 -- both shown in Hunnicutt. Pilot #2 had this text on its right turret side (row 1) "HVY TK T26E4" and (row 2) "90MM GUN T15E2". The photo of the left turret is more blurry but it can be assumed to say the same. Pilot #2 had a reg number of "USA 30119907" and it can be assumed to be along the mid fender stowage box.

Roy,

Thanks a bunch. Really helpful. Any recommendations on best decals to buy so I can recreate the proper lettering?

Thanks again!

John
