Hey, guys (and gals)! Been toying with something of an oddball idea for a campaign. Thought I'd throw it out to see if there could be interest or I'm just stark raving.

The idea is to build any vehicle named for clergy. Bishop, Deacon, Sexton, and Priest are the ones I can think of but maybe there are others. And I think it wouldn't be too far afield if we were to open things up to include anything named for a god or mythological diety, like Alecto, Thor, or Loki.

If this were to go, I would think it would run sometime the latter half of the year.

Thoughts, anyone?

speaking as a clergy person I think that might be interesting; I already have Academy's Priest sitting completed on my shelf but maybe I could find another item; or a German one named "Thor" (or Loki, or...)

I think there is a figure set that includes a chaplain but I can't recall who makes it; just a thought

Hi, Brian. It never occurred to me that we might have any clergy lurking on this site, but in hindsight I realize, why wouldn't we? Anyway, I hope and trust that the proposal isn't in any way inappropriate. Would certainly not have been intentional. It simply struck me as a campaign theme that probably hasn't been done before.

no problem Mark; not inappropriate at all; I think it's a cool idea; clergy and the vehicles named for their profession are part of military lore and history;

Nike-Hercules & Thor-Able come to mind.

I considered that. Would open the door for Saracens and perhaps Saladins, but I'm not sure I want to diffuse things so far from the original idea. Still, a strict interpretation of the original makes for a pretty limited list of options. I think once there seemed to be enough interest we would put it to the crowd to decide how loose an interpretation would be appropriate.

Thanks Mark. The Crusader tank came to mind while reading thru the thread. As Thor and Loki were mentioned, would the self-propelled Karl Gerats named as such qualify? Cheers, Tat

IF we collectively decide to allow vehicles named for gods and dieties in addition to vehicle named for the clergy then, yes, they would. Haven't really made that decision yet until we get some more input.

It sounds like a rather different and interesting idea, although the initial proposal would be pretty limiting - folks have, I think, already mentioned almost all of the clergy - related AFV, and I think that such names are to be found only among the western Allies stuff - no Soviet, German, Italian, French, or Japanese items with clergy-type names pop immediately to mind...

How many others besides Abbot, Bishop, Deacon, Priest, and Sexton are there?

Not many, I think, which is why I really didn't know if this idea had enough get up and go.

Sal,
Love the Priest. Unfortunately, not looking like we've got enough interest to get this off the ground. Might have another go later in the year since we seem to have quite a few going on right now.

Thanks, John! If you say we're good then there is no higher authority (in this particular case anyway )

I'm travelling on business this week, but when I get back I'll flesh out the details and submit a proposal.

How does everyone feel about starting 1 Sep and running for approx. 6 months?

Campaign will be open to any scale, any nation and will include any of the following:

1. Air, ground, or sea-going vehicles/vessels named for a clerical title from any religious order
2. Air, ground, or sea-going vehicles/vessels named for a god or demi-god from any mythology or religious following(I'll accept the flying spaghetti monster only if you can provide an image!)
3. Figures or vignettes of either of the above (e.g.: diorama of a chaplain holding a battlefield service, etc.)

Will not include such things as Crusaders or Saracens, which, while having a religious association, do not quite fit into any of the above categories.

Sound good?

Oh, and just to be clear: This campaign is not about promoting religion or any particular religion; it's simply an idea for something a bit off the beaten path. But it's perhaps worth noting the impact that religion has had in shaping the history we reflect in our hobby.
