So, I am thinking of doing an M151A2 with a bunch of guys sitting in it. I don't like the Tamiya figures. Are there any other sitting figures out there with PASGT? I suppose I can try to cobble together some of the old Dragon figures to the Tamiya bottoms but I think the Dragon figures are too lumpy in detail, and the Tamiya bottoms too skinny compared to the Dragon torsos.

Maybe Rangers? I think they were wearing Vietnam era uniforms at the time. No body armor? Maybe they had NVGS at the time?

Hi Bob. Yes, the Rangers in Op Urgent Fury (Grenada) were still wearing Vietnam-era jungle fatigues with M1 steel pot helmets with jungle camo helmet covers on them. NVGs were still in their infancy then and not really a personal item, but larger and mounted on weapons, mostly crew-served.

Rangers

Only the 82nd ABN had the brand new Woodland BDUs, Kevlar helmets, and PAGST armor. The figures in the kit are supposed to be 82nd Airborne Troopers.

Here is the actual vehicle the kit is based on. It was an M151A2 that had recently returned from a deployment to Egypt as part of a Brightstar exercise.

Thanks Gino. So you think I need to cobble figures together to do the 82nd? Seated?

I think the two new Tamiya figures in the M151A2 Grenada kit are pretty good. The driver is weak, but passable. You have to remember, in the early '80s, soldiers were leaner than now. Now we want them more muscular to be able to support all the body armor and gear we wear.
