Disgusting to see a german Major General acting as such a lickspittle. He even seems to be quite proud that he is allowed to play the lackey of foreign soldiers in his own country.

You might not like it; but, that's the price you pay when you depend on the biggest kid on the block to keep the bully from across the street from taking your lunch money. It'd be a different story if there were real armies in Western Europe which were realistically large enough to protect their own turf.

OK boys, lets keep the politics out of it. This is a modeling site, not one to debate world politics. If you want to do that, go elsewhere.

You know, after a few decades of NATO I was under the impression we were all on the same team. Having worn a uniform and worked with the Germans/French/etc I think that's the common impression uniform to uniform.

So in that regard "lickspittle" is just idiotic. He's part of the Alliance that has kept Europe safe since the 1949. It's done a good job and I hope it's going to continue to do a good job into the future.

Neat to see the Army heading back in force. I didn't see much of a point to forward deploying SBCTs but not ABCTs, the time saved in transit is more profound for armored units instead of Strykers. Wish we'd bring back the old style ACRs, as those seemed better designed for the kind of events we're worried about in Eastern Europe.

The new headlights look really cooooool ! And a M88A2 in plastic featuring this configuration would bee even cooler !
ABVs nice ... did any M104s come along too ?

..... the German General .... well, what can the poor guy really contribute ... seeing about the equivalent of half of the whole German Panzertruppe rolling by.

Cheers

Always good to see that 'the biggest kid at the block' until today needs to show that he still is 'the biggest kid'! (At least according to some of messages we now see)
But in his limited vision he never takes the time to have a look at the other kids in the street. If he would, he would immediately find out that they have brains and power as well. None of the other 'kids at the block' discusses the need for cooperation. But they certainly don't like to be downsized.
Unfortunately we, more than the years before, are bound to each other: each with his own specialism. And some of the other kids do play less visible roles! But they are there and they function, dear Joseph. Count on that!

Shall we continue with modeling now?
Much better than quarreling about who is the biggest in town, isn't it!

The 88 head lights were pretty neat looking. Hard to believe mordern tech finally getting into armored vehicles. It's pretty sad though that the US Army is still relying on M60 AVLBs.

I found better videos of the unloading on DVIDS site. The Hercules features a lot of detail changes, but still has the old M60 chevron type track. Video show also an M60 AVLB minus bridge being towed from the RO-RO ship with a big forklift.

The problem is not with the quality of European forces, it is the size. Past economic problems have lead to quite a bit of downsizing and that is the real problem.

Joe,

When were you in Gelnhausen? I lived there from 2002 - 2005 when I was stationed in Budingen.

I was in Dco 1/33AR, later Dco 3/8 Cav, (why they switched-don't know), 3AD from Late 86 to Late 90.

Told my wife last night that I would like to show her where I was stationed. Good times!

7th FAD, 557th Art Gp. Was able to go back with my wife about a year before they deactivated. The wall was down and we got to see what was on the "other side", this was in 91. Great trip.

An AVLB is a second echelon vehicle. Basing one on a obsolete chassis is a reasonable idea. As long as the bridge can handle the most modern vehicles it doesn't matter what chassis carries it.
