I've been reading a few websites about figure painting, and as I use Vallejo paints quite a lot I was looking for something to think them. Several sites suggest distilled water, I'm having trouble finding distilled water and wondered if I could use deionised water instead?

Distilled and de-ionized are basically the same thing. BTW for brushing I just use tap water.

Same here, just standard tap water for hairy stick work.

deionised water is available from Tesco at £1.85 for 5 litres.

It is suggested as best to use as there are no chemicals which could react with the paint and pigments.

You don't use that much, and even with a wet palette, it does go a very long way

Water works, but Vallejo's own thinner is better.

Try tap water, if it reacts badly with your paint, then spend your cash on fancy h2o. I've used both Distilled and Tap, have not noticed any difference

I had trouble finding distilled water too, but I found out you can order it at some Chemists/Drug Stores. Tap water can seem okay and for some it is just fine, but if you live in a poor water quality or hard water area then its best to use distilled water as the deposits left from tap water can affect the paint and can even affect airbrushes if you were using it in them.
