Any comments on Azimut's 1/35 Renault D2?

I would really like to build this vehicle.
I purchased the Blitz kit but let me just say I was disappointed.
In the few photos that I have seen of the Azimut offering it looks much better.
And yes, I am aware of Azimut's "reputation".

Yes indeed Colin. This was the article that attracted my attention to the Azimut kit. It looks really good in the pics. It appears to be a much cleaner casting than that from Blitz.
I wonder if anyone else out there has built it.

I strongly advice you not to buy anything from Azimut without seeing the product. Their quality vary from reasonably good to useless. Then there is of course the issue with their lack of respect to their customers. As a fan of french armour I´m hoping that Meng or Takom would release Renault D2 at some point.

Or maybe Tamiya to follow their Char B and Somua . . . . let us hope!

I'd rather have a FCM-36 in plastic but then I'm biaised, my grandfather was a tank commander in one.

Another advantage of the FCM-36 is that it was used by the Germans for SPG conversions...

Cheers,

Christophe

Franck, have you seen the castings? I'm certainly not interested in buying a mediocre product . . . . or not receiving any product at all.

Hello Tom,

Keep your money. By continuing to buy from Chomette not only do you run the risk of losing your money, you are supporting him and his fraudulent activities. If you can find one second hand maybe that's an option but don't buy direct.

this is Marc from Paris. I know the guy from Azimut,

Marc,

Perhaps you couild ask him to either pay me back my money or send me my goods (I'm flexible and reasonable). It's coming up to five years now. If I ever have the opportunity to ask him myself things may end up badly for both him and me.

Merci.

Sean

Older kits like the D2 are not available from them anyway.

Maybe they'll get another production run but that's unlikely.

I'd check eBay regularly as well as ads on the modelling websites.

Cheers,

Christophe

It is still listed on their website, but under "Limited Edition" kits . . ? I have an "agent" in Paris checking out the shop and the kit itself. Let us see what transpires.

That's the problem many (most) of the kits conversions listed as available on the website are not actually in stock....

I know the stock because I visit them regularly when I come to Paris, last time in September 2016.

Wonder if they still have the TLAV BVM conversion I ordered at least 5 yrs ago! I actually went to the shop when I was in Paris a couple years ago - they were closed because they were at the Saumur Model show...Seems like if you order older, out of stock stuff you're screwed.
Anyhow great to meet you at AMPS Christophe!

Jim

Marc, my operative/contact in Paris visited Azimut earlier today. He found that ". . . the D2 has run out a couple of months ago. He has asked for re-manufacturing but looks like there is a long queue at the moulding workshop gate, and he cannot tell when it will be available again. He will update his site accordingly."
Drat! Well maybe Tamiya will come to the rescue.
