I have looked through a number of the TUSK II photos and I have noticed that more than not, are not showing the CIP's. Is this not standard anymore or just not used now as there are no hostile vehicles to be confused with? Have seen a photo of one with a rear CIP on an old bustle, without the extension.Anyone up to speed on this ?? Any info appreciated......

Your assumption is correct. TUSK is added only in combat situations and so far TUSK I and TUSK II have only been used in Iraq (a few TUSK I pieces were used in A'stan by the USMC, but not full sets). TUSK is to protect against asymmetric threats; RPGs, IEDs, snipers, etc., not other tanks. By the time TUSK I was used (mid '06) and later TUSK II (late '08) there was no longer an enemy armor threat, so no need for CIPs to ID friendly tanks.

The EAS (European Activity Set) vehicles are configured as standard M1A2SEPV2 however there side skirt ARAT kits that can be installed swiftly should the need arise...that is my "next" project!

Also of note, current M1A2 SEP V2s have the CIPs on them as standard fitment.

So, other than Iraq and Afganastan, the CIP is still part of the gear. Seems there are possible bad guy vehicles still roaming around .......
