I've nearly finished this really good kit of the old AMX 13 tank.
The kit although being a huge improvement over the Heller offering is not fully accurate. The problem with the AMX 13 tank is that it was built in 4 basic types which all underwent through a number of upgrade programs during their service life.

The Tamiya kit is easy to build. It misses mesh grilles over ventilation intakes so I had to make them. I also added the glasses for the vision blocks and modified the elevation of the gun. I thinned the headlight protections.
I kept the vinyl tracks even though it can be consider a heresy today.

For the paint, I used a mix of XF-13, XF-15, XF-58 and a touch of XF-3. Then I sprayed some XF-57 Buff to create the chalky dust of the Champagne training camps.

Ah, that brings back memories.
Here you see me, about 40 years ago.....painting my AMX ( 1:1 scale....). I was an AMX gunner while serving my 14 months but in real it was more painting and cleaning than shooting.....

HansBouwmeester I guess your 1:1 scale model was the 105mm gun tank. This is a very interesting variant too. I intend to get one some day.

Were these the AmX-13/105 tanks built for the Netherlands Army? I've only seen a few photos of them in service, and I'd like to get some references for the new Takom kit (I also have the old Heller version).
Are you aware of any photo walkarounds, or veterans photos on the web? And speaking of painting, what green or olive shade did the Dutch use?

Have a look at Google under "Koninklijke Landmacht" combined with "AMX13 verkenningseskadron" or "AMX 13 antitankeenheid".
You will find minor differences (tracks in some cases), but also inspiration for decalls.

Hi, I am building the Tamiya 1:35 AMX model and visited today the Militairy museum in Soest, where the have some AMX tanks. I photographed many details. If you still need the photos, please let me know.

do you speak of the AMX 13/105 variant ? If so I'd be interested in your pictures. I have the Takom kit in the stash but I still have not decided which version I'll build (Dutch or Argentinian).

Great job on your AMX - your tasteful weathering job really sets off the monochromatic finish.

About the Dutch AMX-13/105 (I also have the Takom kit in my stash), I was also wondering what shade of green or olive they were painted in, and whether their crews applied whitewash in the winter.
