I am looking for an engine in resin for the Tamiya M1025/M1046 HMMWV. I know CMK and Tac Scale Dynaimics make them. Both are listed as being for the old Academy kits. Can either of these be adapted to the Tamiya kits? If they both can, then which would be better?

Regards,

Eric

I'm not aware of any of the available resin engines being designed for use with the Tamiya kit. I have resin engine drop-in parts from 3 or 4 different manufacturers and they all look very similar. I have not used on yet but plan on using one on a M966 TOW project after I get back from deployment.

According markings on the pack, CMK engine is also for Tamiya kits.

Yes, but for the old Tamiya Bushmaster Humvee kit.

OK, thank you for the precision, so not for M1025 and M1046 Tamiya kits.

Thanks everyone. Looking closely at the few available photos I'm sure a bit of surgery will be necessary to make it work. I might buy both and see which would be easiest. I'll let everyone know.

The CMK engine will fit the Tamiya M1025, crappy pic, but it's in there...

I agree, but You have to cut it into some pieces. As I've done it here:

Kuba, are there any in process shots of it in work? If like to see the surgery you did to it.

Eric

No, it's one of my first Humvee models (finished as 13th I guess), I didn't make any WIP photo. But as far as I remember - Tamiya's model is wider than Italeri/Academy's ones. So I took only the middle part of engine (CMK) and glued into Tamiya's Humvee body. Instruction commands to replace sides of the body with one big main engine part, but I left original body and air filter from the kit and completed the engine bay with minor parts which was cut off from both sides of this big resin element. Also I added some handmade small details, f.e. wires and pipes. I hope I wrote this above fairly clear
One more thing - Bronco's M1114 has some engine parts included, so You could use them too (but remember - this version has diferent engine than older M998/M1025, f.e. this big main air channel at the top).

Thanks Kuba. You always have the answers when I'm at a loss. Your experience is so helpful.
