I’m tired of making these from scratch. One of the iconic eras of the USArmy was the Cold War.

There’s a blind spot in the modeling world between the jungle fatigues of Vietnam and the BDU’s if the 1980’s..

Need some of the non- cargo pocket trousers and tucked in shirts, maybe rain gear, and other old timer items of the old REFORGER days...

M65 field jackets, Elmer Fudd hats, etc.

Do you think we could get some? Or what have you guys used?

The Hobby Fan "LZ X-Ray" set has two figures wearing utility uniforms with with M1956 web gear.

I'd love to see some cold war figures too.

Me too. Cold war figures with and without web gear, and with baseball caps.

And while we're waiting, an ACCURATE M60.

What isn't the ancient Tamiya Command set and mortar crew enough? That's two whole sets in styrene!

Between that leaning guy and the one with the crossed arms I've done a half dozen tank crews--

We really need US Army Cold War figures. At times even the prehistoric Monogram US Infantry look almost usable.

Valkyrie has a really nice 1970s USAREUR tank crew in winter gear. They come with two sets of heads as well; bone domes and CVC helmets. Very useful.

We could do with some Brits too; I've managed to wrestle several half decent conversions from the Famous Generals' set not to mention the Stretcher Bearers.

The Dragon LAH Panzer Crew Russia 1943 can also be useful being clad in coveralls. Hornet Heads help too of course, but we really do need some good hanging-around-the-tank- park figures for this period. There's only so much that one can achieve with Milliput etc.

In the same way WW2 Germans in the bulky snow suits can make reasonable soldiers in rain gear. One just wearing the jacket is especially useful to make a guy in a rain parka.

I put together a BW M48 tank commander like that. But I am sick of having to go to such lengths because there are no normal figures.

I agree. We need Cold War figures. I have to convert figures everytime I do a Cold War subject. My latest, an M60A1 RP needed a crew in winter uniforms, so I converted two Alpine German figures. Would have been a lot easier if some were available.

Some one needs to do just ordinary troops, not armor or specific types. There were thousands of stateside, support and other troops. And guard and reserves. Wayne

Right! Not figures posed in midair throwing grenades, or all covered in battle rattle. 95% if the time is just in fatigues, no web gear or crap. Probably doesn’t appeal to the occasional modeler though - no one other than us rivet counting model geeks wants just the average joe, standing around smoking or shooting the [auto-censored].

I’ll be interested to see these-I served in 1AD on tanks and most of the time when in the field we simply wore either our MOPP suits or mechanic coveralls with a wet weather top.

The lack of Cold War US Army figures has been one of my pet peeves for YEARS. Yeah, I get it. It wasn't a "real" war.

But there were SEVERAL HUNDRED THOUSAND US Army troops stationed in USAREUR for close to FORTY YEARS and that doesn't include the HUNDREDS of THOUSAND more stationed in CONUS and Korea. And last time I checked, it was war that we actually WON!

Sure. We REALLY need more Wehrmacht Armor. There's more PLASTIC vehicles made than there ever were real ones.

Also Tamiya's US 107mm Mortar crew. Not great details on the boots but overall acceptable.

Save for the annoying Flak jacket and that one figure is wearing shirt sleeves! But I too have managed to get something from these; the boots require extensive re-shaping and those pointed toes bulked out with something like Mr Dissolved Putty, then add Hornet Heads to taste.

It really would be nice to have some decent figures that would encompass say, the mid 50s to the late 70s - not just crews for vehicles but the Hanging-around-the-Tank-Park poses I mentioned earlier.

Perchance to dream!

... and with baseball caps.

I will be building the shop van my dad drove, when he served in the mid-late 70's. He has a photo of himself and another EOD buddy, in fatigues and red ballcaps. He was EOD, as well. Back to the figures. Baseball caps and fatigues, please? I could even scrounge the torsos from other kits, I suppose.

I mentioned that set up top with the Tamiya Command set. Skinny boots, undersized helmets, though they work well for helmet liners as worn by National Guard crews in the 1950s.

I used the mortar crew in a National Guard M7 Priest circa 1960 though the flak jacket got converted into an open field jacket.

I work with what is out there but please we desperately need new figures. Dragon and others have done all these new Cold War era kits and they're awfully lonely without any figures.
