My uncle was an MP in Mannheim in the 70s. (I think he started off his career with Washington's Provost at Valley Forge!) I'm finishing up a WW2 MP figure and am trying to find out what Infantry Div pulled occupation duty there at the end of the war. I know 44th ID took the place but they moved on after.

Can't help you with an Infantry unit, but it looks like the B Company, 504th MP Battalion was there :

Merci. I did a quick look for the 504th MP, but have only found info from their time in Vietnam. I did stumble into a couple of nice color photos. One was a 44th Inf. MP with a couple Wehrmacht midgets. (kids in uniforms. Heads are up to the MPs belt!! Hitler Youth? More like Hitler Infants!) Doesn't give a date or location. Another is 11th Armor MP with another midget. Location was given as down along the southern border, near Austria.

The 3rd Brigade, 8th Infantry Division occupied the area around Mannheim, Germany from the 1960s through January 1992 when the division deactivated and most of the units reflagged as part of the 3rd Armored Division.

The 14th Military Police Brigade was headquartered in the same area and controlled several military police battalions. It would most likely be their subordinate units.

Good info but don't think they were using M-1 Garands then.

I know the 2nd Armored Division predates the 8th ID in the Mannheim area. A quick search showed the 41st, 42nd, 43rd and 58th Armored Infantry Battalions were assigned with the 58th in Mannheim in the 1950s.
