Doing a dio with the Tamiya Feldkuche and wondered if German cooks were armed? Would they have had weapons nearby and if so what kind? Thanks

I had the horse drawn kit years ago and the soldiers that came with it had 98k's, and standard infantry gear. I'm guessing they carried whatever was available at the time.

A quick Google Image search was unproductive; but I would agree with Randall above that they would PROBABLY be armed with Kar 98s. Maybe some pistols, but I doubt S.M.G.s.

That's what I figured; they were still soldiers and would have received the same training as everyone else; I would think, especially in combat zones like Russia where there could be partisan activity they would need some kind of firepower; I have plenty of 98K's and some pistols in my spares box; thanks for the feedback

Since they are not front-line troops they COULD be armed with older non-standard, or captured Russian weapons. ...Just a possibility!

I've seen many photos with them just wearing belts and not webbing, so maybe just belts with KAR98 ammo pouches.

Seems to be the Karabiner 98k was the weapon of choice.

What they did with them is anybody's guess; I was in a unit once where I had to show the cooks how to put the bolts in their M-16's!

And I thought all cooks were under cover SEALs like Segal. "I'm just a cook." Besides, who needs a gun when you have SOS? (Head Cook.Death from Within.)

Cooks would have had rifles, senior nco's would have side arms. There's a to&e of a support unit in an ancient Afv-G2 magazine I used for wargames.

Really want to throw people for a loop do an early war previous Austrian army unit with their style of equipment.
