A friend of mine is building the new Meng m911 with the m747 trailer.

After assembling the trailer we noticed that it looked too narrow for accepting a tank (we used a m48 for comparison).

According to the m747 TM the width of the trailer should be 139" or 3.97" in scale. The actual width of the trailer is 3.44"

Are we missing something or did Meng screw this one up? Perhaps we understood the real dimensions incorrectly?

Hi!
You should take into account that the fladbed is not as wide as the trailer over all. There are a couple of fittings that increase the width over all, as well as the tires.

In the TM it says that the M747 trailer has a maximum width of 137" which can be reduced to 120". 120" is the width of the loadbed itself.

If you look at page 5 of this document

http://www.themodellingnews.com/2018/03/in-boxed-135th-scale-m911-c-het-m747.html#more

you can see on the picture the overhang of a M60 on the loadbed which seems to be nearly the outer rubber pad of the track.

The overall width of the trailer is 137 inches, which is over the tires that extend past the deck. The deck is 120 inches wide.

Many many thanks for the replies and the clarification. There were no tires on the trailer model and we did not realise that the wider part is there.

They hang over, seen it many times. 113’s hung over the m915’s too. A good ground guide is a must
