Another video of the Alvis Saladin, along with the vehicle that would replace it.

I did wonder if the Saladin is actually in the official paint, as it seems closest to Tamiya AS-40 which is an RAF color.

Are there such things as quiet military vehicles?

The Saladin is depicted in Deep Bronze Green which was a high gloss finish paint devised in the mid 50s for British vehicles.

I had a tin of the original paint until my wife, in a fit of housekeeping zeal, threw it out.

From a modelling perspective for 1:35, I find Revell Enamel 65 (Bronze Green) ideal; it does need a gloss varnish.

Regarding the sound of the vehicle, I feel the video is deceptive. Saladin did have a high transmission whine but when creeping around the battlefield/training area could be quite quiet. The British methodology is usually to reconnoitre by stealth (as opposed to fight for information); I'm not too sure how quiet the CVR(T) series could be but unless thrashing along at full tilt even CVR(T) could be relatively subtle.

Hi;

Speaking about the Saladin; there is A picture of A Saladin in the Invasion of Kuwait, and shows it firing its main Gun ! Does anybody have info; about who's Vehicle it belongs to, either Kuwait or Sadam's units ?
The picture was taken from above, and most likely from A Tall building !!

CHEERS; MIKE.

It seems that Tamiya AS-21 paint (which I have on hand) is a very close if not exact match to the color listed above. Am I right?

Tom,

I'm not sure; I suppose it will all depends on how it looks under a gloss varnish, so I can't really help. here's another clip of Saladin when it made its debut:

I guess it was a Kuwaiti one. Here's another one :

There's a preserved one in a Kuwaiti museum (with no markings though...) :
