Beginning a 1/16 WWI Takom to display in my 10th grade World History Class that I teach. Visual always stimulate the kids.

Normally I follow the Shep Pain concept of "Never worry about detail no one will see", but plan to make working hinges so some interiors can be viewed...

What a great way to teach! Maybe you will spark some modelling interest! We certainly could use more kids in our hobby. I did a report on WW2 in high school and brought a DAK diorama, got an A.

Nice... has spark interest in the Past. HAd to move up in Scale as my standard 1/35 was just to small for most to see across the classroom. So lots of 1/25 and larger displays, diorama, models, and figures.

Now already thinking I need to build a 1/16 German AV7...

Thanks... been a long haul of eye surgeries, but seem to be on the mend. Praying the worst in the past, and taking advantage of the time allowed now...

It would've been interesting if my HS history teacher built models and brought them in to class.

Wow, Lucky kids!-- and obviously, a great teacher (and modeler too!). My wife taught in various schools around the world, for nearly 45 years, finally retiring after 14 years with the last school district. She had a theme "Where Learning Takes Flight" in her classroom, and I was lucky enough to build 30 aircraft from the Wright Flyer to the Space Shuttle to hang from her ceiling. At the end of every year, a couple of deserving students would be allowed to pick one to take home. When she retired in 2015, we gave all of them away to deserving students. Then I started building more for a starting teacher we know, and now she has adopted the theme. Some kids could care less, but we had a lot of kids (and parents too) who were fascinated by the models, and I was approached by more than one parent about how they could get into building. I was AD military for 30 years, so we moved around to a lot of school districts. My undergrad degree was in Education, but I never really used it, until I retired and substitute taught-- but that experience and being married to a teacher for 42 years showed me how difficult being a teacher is. Keep up the good work Teach!

Thanks for your service... and hers! A different form of AD. and different potential combat, but I have always felt, based on classroom, combat pay would be appropriate for some teachers!

One thing though, as a history teacher, you might want to keep the cred and drop the '17'. The correct name of the tank is the 'Renault FT'. The 17 is often incorrectly added to the end....

John, I think so too! My wife has suffered a broken nose, a fall of a three foot stage resulting in a hip injury (she was teaching music at the time), and a collapsed left foot from spending so much time on her feet on hard floors. Teaching is not an easy profession, mentally or physically, and her injuries are haunting her now. My hat is off to you for taking it on.

Trouble getting tracks to line up and stay in place as the glue dries...
The solution for me: Cut some 1/4 tubing that fit between the track supports as they dry.

John, Nice work so far-- I have the 1/35 little brother to this in my stash. Your's is coming along nicely. A Trench Diorama would look great! Maybe you can find some Doughboys to go with it (the only 1/16th Doughboy I can recall offhand is and old (but nice) casting from Series 77-- he's holding a German helmet. Maybe you could find one on E-bay.

Loving your work.Know everyone in the class should enjoy it.When I was in high school I had a teacher that was a Navy fighter pilot during the Vietnam War.He was shot down and spent years as a POW and shared stories about his time then later as a Top Gun instructor.Great teachers always make positive results in students lives.
