Anyone have any good pics of more modern Antenna bases where the spring is bent?

I want to do some 3D Printed ones, but need to see how they bend to do them accurately.

Under normal tie-down situations, the spring doesn't deform too much.

3D-printed springs will be VERY weak. I tried this in resin to start with but gave up because of casting problems and weakness.
Using real springs is the way to go. http://leopardclub.ca/workshop/LW021B/

It's more an exercise in trying to do this in the CAD software. I figured out how to do the unbent ones, but wanted to try the bent ones as well.

The spring itself would need something solid on the inside to 3D print it. I did this with the straight ones I modeled as well, granted you can;t see the solid reinforcement on them.

You might try some METAL Antenna Bases/Springs if you need "masters"- Check around the Hobby Shops or Ebay- Lots of after-market Antennas out there- They are pliable enough to achieve whatever degree of "bend" that you may want to try...

Good Luck!!!

Matt,

I would like to see the bent ones as well, and if an internal support were included, why not print in a clear material so that a user could paint the "spring", leaving the internal support as clear and not obvious to the viewer. Keeping in mind this is 1:35th scale and the area between the spring coils would be quite close.

Print some of these, with an adequate socket to place the antenna into, and I'll buy the first 25.

I sculpted the antenna coil from bent clear sprue, then wrapped small diameter lead wire around it and mounted it to an appropriate base with a spring steel antenna wire.

The issue with printing them in Clear is no matter what, the current materials start to discolor no matter what. I'm not sure if it's the nature of the UV cured resin material or something else.

I have the straight ones uploaded to Shapeways as a few different styles & scales.

I'm awaiting pics from the two Gentlemen who requested them (they're still in the printing Queue with Shapeways at the moment).

Matt, please check the link. It takes me to Shapeways, but negative results.
