I have been approached by the owner of an M706 for a commission build of his specific vehicle. However, I know little about the vehicle and was hoping some of you could help me create a list of the materials I will need in order to complete it.

Photos of the vehicle are available here, http://charterarmor.com/vehicles/v-100/ or in David Doyle's book about the vehicle.

From the looks of it, I think Hobby Boss's kit https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hobby-boss-82418-m706-commando-armored-car--106201 would be the best starting point. However, the tires in the kit would not be correct and need to be replaced (The Def Models set aren't correct either, so I am at a loss for the correct tires. I would also need to source a mount and pintle for the .50, as well as source a mount for the M60.

I would like to compile a list of all the necessary additions and modifications that will be necessary for the customer, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

You are welcome to my V150 walk round. Dimensionally it's the same as the V100 that it's based on. Underside photos won't do you much good as the drive train was beefed up, but interior probably uses a lot of the same components. At the very least this may help:

Hi Jon,

I have a 50+ high-res walk-around(including some undercarriage shots)of a V-100 on display at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. The walk-around set is yours for the asking...If you are interested, please IM me and we can discuss how to arrange.

Thanks,

Matt

The .50 cal mount can be sourced from any M-113 kit. The Academy M-163 has some unused parts included, and I think one of them is the MG Mount. As for the M-60, the Tamiya M-151 MUTT has one included as an option, so does the one from Academy. I may be able to help you out with the .50 cal. mount. I have the M-163 kit in my stash. I'll check and see if it does include that part. Squadron has a book on the Commando in their Walkaround series that has a lot of up close detail shots. Hope this helps. Al

I'll just add the pedestal for the m60 will have to be fabricated out of square stock otherwise, M113 and an M151 or M113 ACAV should get you both. Check the military five-ton bigfoot truck tires or MRAP.

Jon.

Here's a link to our page covering the M706/V100 on WarWheels. http://www.warwheels.net/M706INDEX.html

Please note that there's a list of model products at the bottom of the index that might help you.

Here's a reference site I used for mine.
http://720mpreunion.org/history/vehicles/v100/v100_index.html and here's the finished product. Kit was Hobby Boss. Ma Deuce, Pig, and Thump gun + mounts were out of the spares box. Not sure of their provenance. I have the balance of the decal sheet, if you are interested.

The kit tires look like the photos from Vietnam to me.

Thank you for the replies everyone. From them and some additional research I have come up with a tentative list of materials needed.

Base Kit- Hobby Boss Kit http://store.spruebrothers.com/product_p/hbs82418.htm

Machine Gun mountings: Tamiya M151 (35125) and Tamiya ACAV m113

Tires- Still Unknown.

One other thing I will also need is the smoke dischargers and mounts.

Hobby Boss kit has smoke grenade launchers in the kit. They are a six pack on either side of the turret, but with a little tweeking ... Tubes are on the B sprues and mounts are on C. Also you'll need a .50 cal. barrel for the turret. Kit only has 2 X .30s As for the base kit, HB 82419 is the same kit, different directions. Might want to check Evil Bay. Probably can find one for cheaper.

By the by, If anybody is interested, allegedly Hobby Boss is going to be releasing a USAF M706. Leastwise according to Scalemates.

Hard to say from the pic, but the tires might be the ones used on the M1117.
