I saw somewhere an idea for a hull like the Marder IFV as a chassis for a panzer line. A bit of math puts a Tiger 2 equivalent protection (with a tiger 2 turret) at about 50 tons. On 12 torsion bars that's around 4 tons load each. The armour could be fairly scalable, light(ish)/med/heavy. The side armour is the real weight hog. Is 50ton realistic for Tiger 2 performance. I have only rough dimensions for the Marder im working off and an armour density of 7850kg/m^3.

Are you thinking of the Argentine TAM (Tanque Argentino Mediano)? That was based on the Marder Hull.
