I looked up and the earliest West German armor was a brownish green akin to Tamiya Khaki Drab. Did that still apply years later?

Bundeswehr vehicles were painted RAL 6014 Gelboliv until the mid `80s. Then we switched to NATOflage.

I did see an old thread on West German armor and it showed a group of tanks which had a brownish tone. But that might have been a case of photography not turning out right.

Gelboliv is a strange paint. Depending on the lighting conditions it can look like OD, or it can be greyish, or brown-ish, or even a touch purple. And under museum fluorescents it looks yellowy green. And it tends to burnish dark wherever it rubs. It's a real "fade into the background" colour!

I tend to use Tamiya XF51 Khaki Drab as a base, with lightened XF51 (cut with XF60) as a highlight overspray.
