Do anyone know how much of these were converted? Are there more pics to find? I guess the proposed M1091 FMTV fuel tanker with HEMTT tank and pump is cancelled?

BTW The fuel tank/pump unit from PSM could only be used with mods. the filler cap of the tank is different.

I guess the PSM (or the MMK) tanks are 600 gallon models :



whereas those with recessed fillers are 500 gallon ones :

(This is probably obvious to all but here goes . . . . )

The trailer mounted modular fuel tank (a tank rack) is a containerized fuel storage/dispensing unit and can be loaded/unloaded off the M1076 trailer by a HEMTT with LHS (Load Handling Equipment),

There is also a containerized water tank version (also referred to as a tank rack) with pump and purification equipment called a Hippo.

Damn, Frenchy, now I have to go back to the drawing board..

Hmmm... the best way (not the cheapest) is to get 4 tanks, cut them horizontal and glue the two upper halves together.

Not sure if your primary interest is the FMTV unit or the HEMTT but I was driving down the interstate a few days ago and look what was sitting in a rest stop chained to a flatbed trailer.

Based on this thread I HAD to pull over and snap some photos!

And that HEMTT pic on the train has me over-excited. I need to build my Italeri M978 tanker, but it's the old one with the crappy wheels/tires. Not sure about resin replacements.

Resin replacements for the HEMTT tires are easily found but I personally don't find the Italeri tires all that bad.

It might however be time to buy the new Trumpeter HEMTT kit and swap the fuel truck shell over from the old Italeri. But just know; the Italeri model CAN be upgraded to match or exceed the Trumpeter offering but it is going to take a lot of work! AND a pre-painted cab interior from Eduard, a SINGARS radio from the Shapeways 3D site as well as a set of brake cylinders also from Shapeways and maybe even a full resin engine from Plus Models if you are feeling particularly energetic!

Gary; As for how I find some of these photos; I happen to live at the junction of I-75 and I-64 in Kentucky. It seems like there are always small lots of military equipment moving through on flatbed trucks. That and Guard Convoy movements.

I would have even more photos but it is kind of hard to shoot a moving convoy when you are alone in the truck and having to drive.

I consider those the "new" HEMTT tires, which I would be thrilled with. My tanker has the injected tires that came with the original Italeri M977. They are pretty bad by comparison. That interior also looks pretty sweet!

Sorry I forgot that little detail - yes you are right of course, Italeri upgraded their tires a few years back.

Perhaps all the more reason in invest in a Trumpeter HEMTT and move the Italeri fuel tank over to it!
