Hi,
Here's my completed AAVP7A1 prior to putting it on a base with some troops. Unfortunately HobbyBoss did not includes the radio set. However, it's all hidden once the hull is closed.
Didn't dirty it too much that it hides my camo paintwork.
Would appreciate feedback on how to improve it & how many antennas are they supposed to carry.

It looks good. Nice job on it. For the antennas, usually a standard AAVP7A1 would have two antennas, one for each radio. The two mounts you have on the rear should do it.

"I1" of "I/3/4" was MY tractor for OIF I in 2003. She was fresh off the MPF and looked brand new for the first several days in Kuwait. I was section leader and spent the drive to Baghdad in the turret. "Mad-Movie-Maloney" (aka MoDog) was my driver and "Blue-Flamer-Ledford" was my rear crewman. She made it from Kuwait to Baghdad and finally back to Adwaniyah for turnover back to the MPF vessels.
I had a horseshoe mounted to the bow of each AAV in my section. I also strapped 2 track blocks to outboard side of the turret.

As far as antennas, there should be 5. Two on the aft mounts and one on each of the side mounts. There is(was) an antenna for each radio. There is also an EPLRS antenna on the port aft just forward of the SINCGARS antenna. Like you stated, the radios are not really visible through the hatches and it would take someone that knows where and what to look for to spot their absence.

I've ordered some Miniart troops. Once I got them completed I'll be mounting it on a road check point base. Will update with more pics then.

Lee, great job! Certainly looks the part! Shapeways has some 3-d printed radios and mounts if you are ever interested in fitting them in later.

Pre-1995, the radios were RT246/R442/R442/RT524 & four KY57s on starboard behind radio cage (aft of battery box).
SINCGARS equipped vehicles had the radios directly aft of the TC station. Only challenge is building (or acquiring the Eduard PE interior set) the mount.

Antennas done with acupuncture needles & a stretch spruce.

That came out really well.

Motivates me to put away the wingy things I'm building and get back to an AmTrac on the hobby desk.

Just out of curiosity, what nets did/do the four FM radios (SINCGARS or Series-46) monitor? On Army vehicles, the standard is two FM radios, unless a command post/HQ track (then it can have up to six). One usually monitors your unit net (Bn, CO, PLT, etc...) and the other one net higher (BDE, BN, CO, etc...).

I'm building the recovery version, and when trying to fit upper and lower hulls together, it seems that something is binding along the left side, close to the fuel tank. Since the interior is so crowded with items, it's difficult to determine what might be causing it. Did you have a similar issue?

It is the fuel tank. It is about 1mm too tall. You have to sand/shave it down.

Thanks Gino. I'll trim the bottom as it is mostly hidden by the tool/parts cabinets.

Actually it is only the rear, bottom corner that needs to be fixed. You need to remove a couple of mm slice out of it. Here are pics compliments of Ian "woody6968" Hepplewhite to get a better idea of what to remove.
