Anyone knows what kind of locomotives the germans used to move around the railroad guns with during ww1?

Guns like the 28cm Bruno or the Paris gun

I can’t say definitively what locos they might have used, but while I was stationed in Germany in the late 90s, I made the acquaintance of the Bundesbahn maintenance chief in the Hanau area. One day, he gave me a tour of the boneyard behind the maintenance facility where old locomotives were scrapped. He started the tour by telling me Hanau was the hub where several military railway battalions had been stationed since the 1890s, and there were many old hulks of locos that had been through the yard. He handed me the boiler data plate for a 2-6-2 that had been manufactured in 1906, and said that particular locomotive had served through both world wars and up until 1963, when it was retired and sent for scrapping. So, in answer to your question, I’d say a wide range of locos manufactured before WWI could have been used. Locos are not usually built for a single use.

The German Reichsbahn was created in 1920 (after WW I) so any locomotives built for the DR are out of the play.
Before the DR there were "Länderbahnen", i.e. railroads belonging to the individual and semi-independent
German states (for instance Bayern/Bavaria).
A list of the locos owned by the various Länderbahnen can be found here:

Note that the list contains locomotives designed/built after WW I so you will need to check each one individually.
Many of these served past 1920, some all the way into the 1960'ies (probably with modifications).

The list is compiled by model railroaders so it is about locos available in a model railroad gauge ......

I would look for engines of the Preussische Staatsbahnen/ Prussian State Railways. Prussia was the largest state in the Reich, most likely, the Prussian Army had the Railway guns. Maybe a Google search for "Güterzuglokomotiven Preussische Staatsbahnen" would help. Do you plan to build in 1/35 scale?

yes i plan to build a locomotive in 1/35.
I have ordered the Bruno gun from Panzer Concepts in WW1 configuration.

I want a locomotive to push it on to the firing platform.

And I have great drawings for the Paris Gun, but that i will start later.

I'm leaning towards the Prussian G12.
What color would the locomotive be in during the war?
All grey, all black, red/black.

The red colour on the frame was a way to discover cracks in the frame. Keep the red paint clean and cracks will show up as black lines. Not a direct answer to your question but maybe it is a clue ...

I think that Prussian Staatsbahnen Locomotives were painted medium blue, Bavarian ones dark green.

Found this tiny pic of the Bruno gun with its train. The locomotive shoul be a least able to push/pull 300 tons.

Hi - I believe the Locomotive as part of the train used for the 28 cm SK L/40 "Bruno" (or Amiens Gun) was a Prussian G5.2. Ammo and Powder cars were modified Ommk[u]. Regards

Piko makes a G8 0-8-0. I have at least one somewhere in my stash. I used to purchase train sets and separate locomotives every week in East Berlin.
