You see all sorts of pics of Abrams' with piles of gear, like a Dagwood's closet without walls, on the turret. What effect does that have on the blow out panels. I figure it's gonna blow off the crap on top in all directions. But is there a risk of the pressure build up from the extra weight causing the doors in the turret failing?

The TM says not to cover the panels, they may not work as intended. I imagine many crews felt it was worth the risk.

Do these pictures show the tanks going into battle or during the battle? I am thinking that the crews MIGHT have removed all the exra luggage before actually going into battle. Curious to get the input from someone who has done it for real ...

I hip shot on this question. I saw a model on here that looked like the Clampett's Model T (Beverly Hillbillies ) ... Just needed Granny sitting on top. That is what prompted the question. Looks like the REAL ones did not have much on the top. Stuff in the baskets and strapped to the sides look like a gypsy wagon, but ....

Part of the reason tankers hate crunchies.

Though to be fair, a sweep of gunfire from your wingman to clear off the enemy on the tank has been used since the early days.

I am sure the engineers can calculate the force from the rounds but it depends on type and quantity and then weight on top to know if their would be any adverse effect.

Let's be honest if the blast panels are used the crew is not having a good day. The gear is probably the last thing they care about and being honest again, you should not have anything with you on the outside you cannot live without and not be replaced by supply because their is a good chance you will lose it, either cause of vehicle operation, crunchies, NBC, enemy fire etc.....

Loader's hatch is cracked open a bit, and so is the Commander's hatch. It is in the partially raised position which allows him to look out while still protected. Al
