Hi;

Italeri M47 Patton or I think Takom also has A M47 !!
I think the Italeri kit is closer to 1/32nd and comes with the Engine, altho its very Basic !

GOOD LUCK; MIKE.

Hi Mike

I guess the Italeri kit still quite good for its age

The standard M47 kit. Hessler's tank was a 1960s Spanish army so there were no modifications to the basic tank yet.

So it's not a M47E or M47M. Just a plain M47. They removed the rear storage box and bore evacuator for the movie. The globular muzzle break was used because it looked the most German.

On a side note ‘The Battle of the Bulge’ was so Historically Inaccurate, That President Eisenhower Came Out of Retirement & Held a Press Conference Just to Denounce the Film.

Some movie screencaps : https://www.imcdb.org/v040075.html

What about a refulling scene with a AFV Club M35 truck converted into a M34, or the venerable M34 from Revell ?

Having the same idea long ago, the Italeri kit and Archer Transfers (35104, 35042W) can get you a movie build just not Shaw’s tank. The kit has the muzzle needed. I will look next week for the research I had done for the color.

The current issue of the DVD has several "making of" promo shorts on the movie done during the production. They actually had some really good technical advisers, but didn't listen to any of them outside of uniforms and bumper codes. One was the commander of the Panzer division that advanced the farthest in the battle; Meinhard Von Lauchert.

There are better movies to model an M47 as a German tank from, but this movie is the most iconic.

It’s an iconic movie that’s forsure, what other movies would you recommend for a German M47.
Also someone told me that the best takom kit for this build would be the M47 E/M kit. I was originally going to buy the takom kit that had the Spanish variant for the build seeing as they used Spanish M47s. I didn’t know they weren’t a specific variant thought.

The M47E wasn't modified until the late 1970s. The movie was made in the 1960s. They were still stock M47s.

I built an M47 from the this movie myself.

What about the movie 'Patton'. Were not the same tanks used to depict German tanks ? Oh then there is 'The Big Red One'.

Cheers

They used M41, M47 and M48 "Patton" tanks. Maybe they thought the latter were less inaccurate

They used both M47 and M48 "Patton" tanks (and some M41's as well). Maybe they thought the latters were less inaccurate

I forgot Patton had M47s in it, i remember the M48s at the desert battle but never noticed the M47. Big Red One was Israeli Sherman’s if i remember correctly.

As for color i thought that if I used Migs modulation set for Panzer Grey I’d be able to obtain a close enough color to the movie , what’s everyone’s thoughts on this?

I will say the italeri 47 is a good kit still, even for it’s age. I enjoyed building it. I just wanted to build a new takom kit as i have yet to do so.

I used the Italeri kit just recently to build Hessler's tank. The Italeri kit is still considered a very good kit. It was a fun project and I ended up doing the markings with a bit of masking and freehand work.
I even did a video series on YouTube about the build.

Don't waste a decent plastic kit on a bad movie representation!
