- - I Want!
- - - - - I WANT !*!*!*!*!

ICM has just announced the soon to be available WWI - FWD Type B truck in 1/35th scale.

Cannot post the announcement photo due to Photobucket once again finding a way to mess with me even though I am one of their older and more faithful customers?????? Go figure.

Someone please help by posting a pix.

Thanks

Call me Lucky!
I bought the resin FWD kits from Resicast earlier this fall when Graham had a 10% discount offer. Caused him to refresh the worn out molds and everything ....

ICM's kit is the first styrene kit of FWB Type B truck in 35th scale.
The kit has detailed engine and chassy.
It comes with 2 decal options

Excellent! Thanks to ICM for finally getting a plastic injection molded kit out. Now, the only US Artillery heavy mover I’m missing is that MACK NO....oh well.

Michael, et.al.
I can see why. This truck did it all— cargo, troop transport, dump, artillery ammo hauler, artillery prime mover, water truck, maintenance wagon, you name it, it did it. From its inception to the end of its service life, over 17,000 were produced, and served everywhere British, US and Russian armies served. I think something like 9,000 made it to France during WWI. It even went to Mexico to fight against Pancho Villa! Now all we need is a 6” BL howitzer or French 75 to go with it! It served well into the 1930s too. It’s FWD successors drug the Mace missile around Europe during the Cold War too!

I guess you can as well use it with Roden 8-inch howitzer :

another option is this

combined with Resiscasts backdate set, item 351283, to make a 6 inch howitzer

/ Robin

Edit: see posts below about the 6 inch gun.
Resicast also have a resin kit of the 6 inch howitzer

351279 6inch Siege Howitzer

and they also have this:

351265 6inch Howitzer with girdles & limber
currently OOP but I assume it will come back sooner or later

Would the FWD actually be heavy enough to handle either of these guns?
Was it used in this way?

I can see it as a cargo, troop truck or lite tractor but as a heavy artillery tractor???

I would think the Holt tractor would be required for either of these bigger guns.

Oops - just found a photo of the FWD pulling a 6 inch gun AND its' limber so I guess I answered my own question.

Still cannot post photos though - damn you Photobucket.

It was a prime mover for the 6” BL howitzer, but I think the 8” was too heavy. As far as I know, there are no 6” BL injection molded kits in 1/35 scale. The 6” BL used a similar limber to the limber in the Roden 1/35 8” BL Howitzer Kit. Roden has released a 1/72 FWD with a limber and 8” BL in 1/72 scale, but I’m not sure they have this correct— as Michael indicated, it definitely was used as a prime mover for the 6” “Howitzer”. I don’t know about the 6” “Gun” conversion above, which uses the carriage for the 8” howitzer. Maybe Rick Taylor has that info.

The pictured truck is the artillery tractor version with a steel ammunition body.

Well, there you go! Leave it to Frenchy to get photographic proof! Now I need to go out and get a second Roden 8”BL (to go with my Model Cellar treads) and a new ICM FWD! Thanks Frenchy!

Frenchy,
I don't imagine it would be to difficult to convert it to an artillery box--after all it should just be a "box". Maybe the suspension is beefed up a bit... Thanks to Robin too for that nice photo of a Resicast 6"- I imagine it's fairly pricey though. As far as I can tell the limbers for the 8" and 6" are about the same. I wonder if Resicast sells it without the Limber? I'll have to do some checking.

" Now all we need is a 6” BL howitzer or French 75 to go with it!"

IBG has a couple kits of the French 75 in Polish service coming out. I don't know what it would take to back-date them to WWI, but it's a start.
