I'd like to model a Panther from 26th panzer (subordinated to GD) in Romania in the April/May 1944 timeframe. I'm not having much luck finding anything about their markings online. Does anyone have a pointer to a source online or in print where I could do some research?

Thanks,
Phil

In Romania Pz Reg 26 had early/ mid Ausf A's with zimmerit, like these:

They carried a white outline turret number on the side, often covered with spare tracks, and a solid black number on the 3/4 rear plate.

Operation Bagration, summer 1944.

Hope that helps.

Star has some markings from East Prussia that might work.

Yes, Marc, that's a huge help. Thanks very much.

@grindcore - have you used Star Decals? Are they good quality decals?

You could take a look on Axis History Forum.
I didn't have much luck on it yet with very specific research I wanted to do.
But maybe you will have some more luck.

I've tried Star decals over zimmerit, and they wouldn't soften, so they just stayed flat.

You could try make your own mask using this tool:

Or this stencil set from Voyager:

Archer makes dry transfers:

I was thinking I would use the archer transfers. I'd like to try using a stencil though, so maybe I'll do that.

Not recently, but they are very thin, I liked them.

Phil,

They make the same numbers in black. (For the 3/4 rear.) You can fill those in with acrylic paint, like Vallejo, etc.
